Updates...Z5i+ scope was located and is on the way. Barreled action will be on the way to NECG soon. I will be having the iron sights filed to regulate Barnes 300 TSX factory loads. My reloads approximate that load as well.

I'm going to visit Merdad Fanousi's inventory of Turkish walnut blanks next week in person. Some initial interest in these blanks...

I love 544 and 548, both are stunning. I am enjoying watching this build take place!
 
Late to this thread, …. but I posted an article a few days ago on my Lon Paul custom BRNO 602 conversion rifle.

Toward the end of it. there’s a checklist of the work Lon did on my rifle.

Maybe that will help the OP with some ideas.

@Green Chile , I think you’re going to wind up with a stunning rifle. I am not sure of your personal taste but blank 548 looks exceptional to my eye. I purchased some exceptional blanks from Cecil Fredi in Las Vegas. He had an incredible collection to look through. If you want it to match your Dakota, I would stick with English walnut, but Turkish can look more “luxurious” in the higher grades. Just my thoughts…

Thanks for the comments. I said match the Dakota but I should have said compliment the Dakota. I don't want a copy of it but something as nice or nicer. The Dakota wood is not exhibition grade but the 375 probably will be.
 
I just had an enjoyable visit with Merdad Fanousi and his selection of exhibition quality Turkish walnut blanks. I was fascinated to hear that he sells about 400 hand select blanks to complete individual custom projects each year. He also supplies Beretta, Rizzini, etc with about 20k blanks each year for their factory and custom production. Wow. A wonderful visit and his wife brought out Turkish coffee and homemade pastries for us.

I had made notes from his website photos of which blanks interested me the most. He pulled out a few others but complimented me on my selection, 2 of which were from the same tree and essentially a matched pair. I couldn't decide so I took both! I'm going to use the other one for an express .22 rimfire project with ParkWest most likely. #548 will be for the .375 project and #544 will be for the .22 project.

By the way, Merdad told me that the next big shipment will come in under higher tariffs and the cost will be 20% higher. I highly recommend getting in touch with him sooner if you are needing Turkish walnut. He can ship worldwide. This wood is stable, dry and ready to work. He also guarantees it and will replace it if there is a defect internally when working on it.

Like those two choices finished with a nice english red oil and hand rubbed oil finish they will be stunning.

The that is #504 my bet is that is is denser and it will finish up to a refined yet stunning stock. but a lot less pizzazz than the other two.

That is not an Echols rifle but a clone as it has the Echols stock and all the bells and whistles. Lon Paul who built the rifle does great work.
