Managing laptop and trail camera footage on a 3-week Namibia safari – any tips?

I'm heading out on my first proper safari to Namibia in a few months and I've been trying to put together a solid tech kit for the trip. I'll be out in the bush for around 3 weeks and I plan on doing a lot of trail camera work, so I need something that can handle large RAW image files and 4K video footage without slowing down.

I ended up going with an ASUS laptop with 32GB RAM from Techyest and so far it's been handling everything I throw at it really well during testing at home. My main concern now is battery life and heat management out in the field, temperatures in Namibia can get brutal and I'm not sure how that affects performance over long sessions.

Has anyone here used a laptop extensively on a African hunting trip? Would love to know how you managed power (solar, car charger, etc.) and whether heat ever caused any real issues with your equipment!
 
In the camps in Namibia I have been to there was power in the lodge and also in the tented camp. Make sure your charger will work with 220v power. Most modern laptops, tablets, and phones the charger will auto switch between power. But verify. Check with your outfitter on which plug adapter you will need to connect to their power.

I have found that the dust has a bigger effect than the heat. However be practical and don't leave in in direct sunlight all day. or locked in a closed vehicle etc
 
That's really helpful, thank you! I hadn't even thought about the voltage difference honestly, good shout on verifying the charger. And the dust point is something I completely overlooked, I'll definitely look into a proper protective case or sleeve to keep it covered when not in use.
 
First Safari I took my IPad, IPhone and a Nikon SLR.
Second Safari I took my IPhone.
For me the less electronics the better. I found I did not need to manage anything while on Safari. The only thing that would have come through was home security alerts.
Unplug for a bit and enjoy the experience
The deer will still be there when you back.

In the event that you can not unplug, you may find that the internet service does not have enough bandwidth width to support video or pictures.

That's a really fair point honestly. I think I've been overcomplicating this whole thing! I'll probably just use the laptop for offline storage and editing in the evenings rather than trying to stay connected. Sometimes the best experiences are the ones where you actually put the phone down!
