I once helped a woo-woo friend of a friend build her geodesic dome. She was older, wealthy, and the widow of a U.S. Ambassador. I didn't negotiate for payment, but was assured by my friend (the intermediary) that I and the others would be "taken care of". I had that day to spare, so, in the spirit of local community, I agreed.
For a day of good, solid labor, I received...a poem. (And a crappy one at that, too.)
I told her to keep it, as she apparently needed the "payment" more than I did.
