Anybody running a bait, training dogs, got an outfitter plan for this fall?

I have a tag in northern WI, getting a lot of action, although most in the dark, and my biggest bears all look to be sows.

I was sort of anti cell cam, but bears are just fun to watch so i broke down and put one up. I have a beautiful rug on the wall that I'm probably not going to top, so I'm looking forward to some time in the woods and time watching bears, and maybe I'll get lucky and get one in the freezer again!

I have a Black Bear hunt planned with Tri County Outfitters in Coastal North Carolina in November. I just had total right new replacement 1 week ago and hope to be healed up enough to go.

I usually hunt bear here in Ontario every fall, it is such a great time to be in the woods.

This year I am off to South Africa for some different game...so I will unfortunately miss the season.

Hunting bears in northern Alberta right now. Our group of 4 have 3 in the salt after a day and a half of hunting.
A small 150-160 lb sow and two boars.
One went 395 and the other is 265. Sighting bears like crazy. 5 more hunt days to finish out our hunt. Two bear area.

I really need to get to Alberta for bear. How is the outfitter? Would you recommend them?

So far I’d highly recommend him. Tons of bears. Spot n stalk hunt. No baiting.
PM me if you want more info

I am seeing a little reduction in activity a week out from season. Probably acorns hitting the ground, although its not a heavy acorn year thankfully. I am seeing more bears at daylight/dark which is a good development.

I am sitting here impatiently waiting for Maryland DNR to post the winners of this year's Black Bear drawing. They are to announce the winners sometime today.

No tag this year but have seen several while bowhunting deer/elk. Drought conditions and they are having to spend lots more time foraging than a regular year.

Any luck???

I have successfully hunted bear several times. The unsuccessful trip was last year after building 14 years of points to draw my in-state tag. (I saw nothing)

Honestly, I can live without hunting bear. I cannot live without eating bear. It's the best braised meat I've ever had. The tallow makes every roasted vegetable better.

Nobody was more disappointed in my last hunt than my wife who was counting on a resupply of foodstuffs.

I hope you all have a good Fall hunt and a bountiful yield!

No plans this year but hoping to draw Wisconsin zone B for the 2028 season.
Hunted successfully in Upper Michigan in 2024 and Minnesota last year.
Minnesota is already open and the guide i used last year in the Cass Lake area took 12 opening day and 4 more the last 2 days.

Planning to head to Vermont a few days prior to upland opening for some bear hunting over fields in the evenings after running my setters during the days. Lots of bears in the area we stay in the northeast kingdom.

Great area, we are just east of that in NH with the same amount of bears. Vermont is actually supposed to start 2 bear tags starting next year.

Running a bait site though leaving in a week to Canada to moose hunt. Returning about when it gets good here In NH around the 3rd week in September. We have ALOT of small bears as the last few years the sows have been really putting out some offspring.
NH now allows us 2 bear tags

I picked up a sweet .416 B&M from a fellow member recently and since I don’t have a particular use for it at this time, I decided to hunt bear in my home state of Maine for the first time in 15 years. Average size bear for here but the biggest I had on the bait ( I hate hunting bait, which is why it’s been 15 years) so I’m happy I got to use the new rifle. The .416 was more than enough for it, lol.

Congrats Albert! Its a pretty bear.

The opener here is tomorrow, I'll be sitting tomorrow night. I am also overgunned, but I want to break in my .375 :)

Better overgunned than under. Saves on tracking :ROFLMAO:

I love watching bears over bait. I enjoy spot and stalk as well on them. But as far as a "tree stand" hunt goes. I don't think it gets more entertaining than bear hunting. You never know what will come in. Watching the cubs play around, the interactions between all the different bears, watching them eat/play/fight, and also not knowing what might come in next. It makes for an interesting time.

Hi Dr. Ray, I will be in Cooktown from Oct 16 to Oct 23 fishing Lizard Island Black Marlin Tournament.

I have several "slack" days after fishing before I head for stay in Sydney and Fiji.

Do you have any recommendations for 1 or 2 day hunt near Cooktown?

I've hunted both DG and PG in 4 different countries in Africa.
Thank you,
Bob
