Yes…and I am trying to remember what the guy called it (besides 9.3/338)

**Sorry - can't rememeber. Had an Alasakan name... I think the guy even had RCBS make dies. It was very close to a 9.3 x 64

I am not familiar with this cartridge, but I know the 9,3x64 Brenneke very well. The cartridge 366 Alaskan will be comparable to that in terms of performance. In any case, it will offer more than the cartridge 358 Norma Magnum, particularly regarding the bullets.
 
There was a guy on a forum out here who said he had invented a new cartridge by necking up a 300/or 338 win mag case to 9.3 and about three or four of us said it had already been done and a couple of people correctly named it, being someone of fragile ego he had a tantrum and complained about us to he forum owner that we were picking on him . Never heard anything more about it
I think the 9.3x64 would be a good contender for the job and without special dies etc

I have heard of people stuck for 9.3X64B cases using belted magnum cases, turning off the belt and reducing the rim diameter to make brass. Aneal and full length resize and you have 9.3X64B substitute brass made from 338WM or 300WM brass.
So ballistically you might as well get a 9.3X64B rifle and save some bother.

you need the trio 7x64 8x64 9.3x64 - in particular the 7x64 is my fav for culling plains game ! Not taken the 8x64 to Africa yet and the 9.3x64 just arrived - my third - I parted with the other two by mistake!
 
The late Bruce Moulds, a member here, was a big fan of the 9.3x64. He always thought that the 338 win mag necked up to 9.3 would be a good equivalent to his x64 but with easier to find brass.
 
I do think Bruce is right; a 9.3mm bullet in a .338 case would yield virtually identical results.
That said, the purist in me takes over.
The 9.3x64 evokes a sense of nostalgia and a legacy spanning four continents—which is no small thing.
I don't mind paying a bit more for the brass.
I’d love to see this caliber step a little more out of the shadows.
But I believe those who choose it do so out of conviction and a desire for something unique, rather than for the sake of cheaper, widely available ammo.
Still, I certainly understand your points.
 
I have wondered what the 9.3 would be capable of if someone necked up one of these PRC cases. Easy to find brass, etc. then no belt to deal with. I’ve not bothered to try it yet as my 2 9.3x62 are enough so far
 
There was one for sale last year or so on GB. Based on a Winchester crf action. 22" barrel and really nice necg irons. I think it was coined the 9.3 alaskan on the barrel

I've wondered about necking up the RCM case to 9.3 for a short action

I had SSK Industries build two of these in 2008. I had an abundance of Winchester M70s in 338, and wanted something different. I really liked the cartridge, I think a good step up from .338. It was easy to load, just running the 338 case in the size die necking up and done.

Both of my Winchester M70 9.3/338 Win had 22 inch barrels. Basic data running 250s at just over 2700 fps, 286s to 2550 fps.

In 2009 I went on to develop the 9.3 B&M and lost interest, later selling both rifles.
