I like seeing the similarities, and I been wondering if this was missing a hood on the front sight, with the cut groove on the sides of it. But this also doesnt have on it

I dont think so but also not 100%

I ordered the certificate from Rigby, and Im hopeful it has extra information like initials of capt godfrey.

yes the hood is missing ,, I have a Rigby built in 1904 for commander Godfrey Fausett
 
Hi,

Almost ALL those "british" Sporting Mausers were imported from Germany as barreled actions, even as almost finished rifles, by Rigby until the First WW, when that firm was the only agent of Mauser for the UK.
 
Got the cert back from Rigby.

Now it's even tougher to find this correct initials of the owner. Capt J S Godfrey

I agree. Especially on such an early Mauser, I know they started at #1000, and this being 1168. Very special to me, to still be in good condition and use on a future hunt.

Stated online and on their website a few ways.

Book three ledger has Rigby mausers 1000-1999

And their historian has stated

"The first Rigby Mauser in the book (No. 1000) is a .276. (March 11th 1898). The last one listed as .276 was No.1485 on 3rd Sept. 1900. The first .275 listed is No.1521 on 11th April 1900"

my fault I read it wrong I thought you meant mauser action serial numbers thats why I put up that pic of the westley sn643 yes rigby started their serial numbers at 1000.

Hi,

The only thing I don´t like in this lovely rifle is the cocking piece peep sight. In any rifle, by the way. They add weight to the firing pin, not good for a lock time.
