So, I found a Sako 85 Finnlight for a decent price in 270 WSM and I bought it. I don’t dial scopes and like flat shooting cartridges for easy holdovers out to 400 yards.

Then my buddy offered to sell me his stainless Ruger Hawkeye in 7mm Rem Mag, which is a known good shooter and I already have 7mm Rem Mag components……bought it.

Looks like I will be selling a Sako 85 before I even shoot it. :)

Welcome to the club!

Aside from ammo might be hard to find and I was never a fan of Winchester brass for it, the 270 WSM is a mild mannered screamer. I ran 160 Partitions while in Alaska. Try it before you sell it!

You aren’t going to get any sympathy around this crowd for buying extra rifles. If you decide to get rid of the Sako PM me, I have a buddy that has been looking for another as a backup to his primary.

Why?? You can never have too many rifles.

I started out as a rifle nut that didn’t hunt. Once I went to college, I gained an i terest in hunting to go with my rifle/handloading habit. But ever since my kids were born, I’ve really tried to reduce the number of rifles I own because I just don’t have the time to shoot all of them and give them the care they deserve.

I’m now more interested in hunting and experiences with the kids than the rifles themselves. I’ve also dialed down my handloading from being really particular to just making serviceable ammo that uses good hunting bullets.

Just wait till you buy brass and dies because it was a screaming deal. Then have to go find a rifle or pistol that shoot it:A Bulb:

Haha, this is from last night! I am shopping for a 375 Ruger now.

I own 2 identical Weatherby series 1 vanguards a 270 WSM & a 7MM Rem mag the WSM is the rifle in my avatar
both will shoot 1 moa or better with 150 grain bullets, the 270 wsm appears to have less recoil than the 7mm , yes you can go up to170 grain bullets in the 7mm . Yes the Winchester wsm brass in poor quality
i use Nosler & Norma i prefer the 270 WSM over the 7 mm but that is just me.

My vision for each rifle is pretty different. How they shoot will determine if that actually works out. I wanted to load 129gr LRX in the 270 WSM for open country deer/pronghorn. I’m hoping the 7mm RM shoots 160gr TSX or A-Frames, or maybe 175gr Partitions for elk-sized critters.
