My wife, son and I recently completed our first Plains Game safari where we traveled to Namibia to free range hunt with @KHOMAS HIGHLAND HUNTING SAFARIS operated by Philip Hennings. It was a wonderful adventure with a first class team. Our PH, Isaak “the Lion,” knew the hunting area like the back of his hand and was a wonderful companion for our first safari. Our driver, Jason, and tracker, Engelhard, put forth a 100% effort each day. This team, along with the camp crew of housekeeping and skinners, made our trip a huge success.

The first few days, we hunted the rolling hills in search of mid-size game. Our first day opportunity was an Oryx where after a short stalk my son was able to make a wonderful 1-shot off sticks. That quickly followed by me taking an Oryx and Kudu on day 2. Our PH and hunting team kept saying we had such “nice bulls”. The Oryx both scored 90cm and the Kudu was 55 inches. Being new to Africa and unfamiliar with scoring, I did not realize how fortunate we had started for an August trip.

For the middle days of our trip, we hunted flatter terrain and were fortunate to find success on Springbok, Warthog, Blue Wildebeest and an Impala. The highlight of this phase was my son taking an extremely old Hartebeest. The PH admired the animal for much longer than anything we had taken thus far and said it had more grey coloring on its face than any other Hartebeest than he had ever taken. Later we showed the taxidermist a picture who highly recommended a shoulder mount as he had only seen one other with such grey in his time doing taxidermy.

The final days of our safari we hunted the more mountainous area hoping to take Hartman Zebra in their native terrain. This was a challenging and rewarding experience. I was the first to connect and the team was entertained watching me pack out a quarter and then the hide. On our final full day my son connected on a beautiful old stallion and this closed out our safari.

The trip was a success by every measure. Thanks to the entire Khomas Highlands Hunting Safari team and we’ll look forward to seeing you again soon!

Between Blak Rock and Pocahontas, I did not want to say that on the forum. That's a nice Cat!
