Painting Recoil Pad Orange

In line with my recent European kick I was curious if anyone on here has painted the black factory recoil pads on their rifles orange similar to the higher grade English sporting rifles? I’ve got a few wood stocked rifles with limbsavers that do a great job, but might look a bit better with a proper orange on them. Any recommendations on paint color and type is much appreciated!
 
Have you considered replacing the black rubber pad with an orange rubber pad?
 
I really recommend just buying a Silver’s pad and a jig. I’ve never tried to paint one, but am skeptical the paint would stick well or look right.
 
I have looked into just outright buying one, but wanted to explore this option first. I’m not the handiest so if one of the many resourceful enthusiasts on here has a trick to just paint it, I’d be curious. Good suggestions on both counts though.
 
The other option, albeit even more complicated, would be to cover in pigskin. A little more British than Continental, this was the treatment for the best quality guns.
 
I like the New England custom gun (NECG) pads.

A good gunsmith can fit it professionally for likes than 120 bucks.

Do it right.

That’s the issue I’m faced with now…..
Synthetic and black for all weather or blued and wood with red pad.

For the .404J project

Pachmayer makes a fine orange pad that fits the bill well and it’s not too tough of a job to install and fit it yourself! There’s plenty of videos on YouTube how to do it but you will need a belt sander to make quick work of it.

That would depend on how "hands on" you are, do you want to just buy a bottom metal that fits or do you want to modify an existing one, do you have a stock that fits a standard one or is there enough timber to fit a wider one without compromising the timber strength. This will also depend upon the receiver you are using.
It may look easy but there is a lot more to it than simply just grabbing bits.

I'm not sure Pachmayer still makes them in red. Seems everyone has been out of stock for a couple of years. I've been looking for one. Kickeeze makes them in red and I have seen those in stock. But their red seems to have a bit of pink.

For true British look you would need to add black fore arm tip. Personally, I think black pad looks nice with black forearm tip. I watched a video of the pigskin process. Not for the faint of heart! Quite the project.

I used 416 Remington bottom metal and it worked fine without modifying the magazine dimensions. But keep in mind I modified the 8mm Mauser rails and ramp to fit the bottom metal. My 404 loads and cycles slick as glass.

Looks a bit like my CZ project, my decision will depend on what another guy will part with !
