Looking for scope suggestions for the above calibre in Model 70. Intend to use it for large game in NA and mainly PG in Africa. Not a very long dstance shooter so want to keep it within 250 yards or so.

I’ll suggest a Leupold VX5HD in 2-10x with Firedot reticle. That’s the scope my 338 has on top and it’s been excellent. I’ve also got that same scope on my 375. The Firedot reticle is a game changer.

Whatever scope you choose for hunting purposes just make sure it is a Leupold (my personal preference is a Gold Ring). When you buy a Leupold you aren't just buying a scope, you're purchasing a service that will last a lifetime and not just yours. The people there are absolutely amazing. In my 77 years of living and 70 years of hunting I have only used one other scope and that was only because it came on my first used rifle. And, anytime I had any problem, which was very limited, they replaced the scope with a brand new one, no questions asked.

They are also very good hunting scopes. Clear, rugged, dependable and reasonably priced. You can certainly pay more but you won't get a better one for hunting.

I'm waiting a Blaser barrel in this caliber and I will fit my Swarovski Z6i 2.5-15x56 BT. This scope used to be on my Steel Action HM in .338 Winchester magnum but being not accurate at all, I will return to a brand that has never disappointed me.
I already used in the past my PH's Howa 1500 in .338 Winchester magnum and it was also topped with a Swarovski Z6i 2.5-15x56.
I like Swarovski glass and its huge field of view.

Another vote for the 3–15 VX five or VX six fire dot Leupold

Is what I’m wearing on my 338 WinMag

I just mounted the 3-15 VX5HD Firedot on my 338. As well as the older 1-6x on my Lott. With the patent off line now, others are adding "fiber dot" scopes to their line up. Leupolds being lighter are a great fit for higher recoiling rifles.

Mine wears a Steiner Ranger 2-8x42 with Red Dot

a lot of good scopes out there - can't go wrong with most of the Leupold line up

My one suggestion for a hunting scope is to stay away from the bigger objectives. I wouldn't bother with anything over 44mm - actually prefer the 40 and 42's for a hunting rifle. With the big objective, you are just paying quite a lot more money for something that will only benefit you a very few times in a hunting carreer. Most of the time you have to use such high rings that it throws things outta balance - lots of guys don't shoot near as well with their heads bobbing around on float. And the big scopes are heavier, clunky and just change the balance of the rifle.

I'll take the Vortex scope cover you have listed in the Pay it Forward thread.
