Your favorite scope for 338 Win Mag..

I have a Leupold VX-3 4.5-14x40 sitting on top my .338WM , it's not the best choice, nor the best quality, that was the only available option at the shop when I got the rifle. It does the job ....

But you've had a lot of great suggestions, better than what I have .... What would be best? Being able to look through several to do a side by side comparison.

I have a Leupold VXIII 3.5-10x 40 with a duplex reticle on my 338. It's worked well for me.

Ding ding ding. We have a winner.

I recommended 2x for every 100 yards. Guys used to say 1x but imo 2x is better. Am doing a 33 Nosler for intermediate ranges with a 160 gr ttsx, so I plan to put a 3x15x44 on it, (<600 yards).

Swarovski Z6 1.7-10 on a Sako 75 and Kahles 1.6-8 on an R8 barrel - both are excellent. Clarity over power for hunting guns.

I’ll suggest a Leupold VX5HD in 2-10x with Firedot reticle. That’s the scope my 338 has on top and it’s been excellent. I’ve also got that same scope on my 375. The Firedot reticle is a game changer.

I put the exact scope on my .375H&H and I love it; I think it would be ideal for a .338Win for shots 300yds and closer.

I’m literally in the exact same boat right now. I may draw straws but leaning towards the Leupold.

These are my picks. Just be aware the tubes are short and many M70 mounting options won’t work. I use Talley steel bases with the extended front and low rings. Also, the Trijicon Aimpoint doesn’t have very long eye relief.

Yes, and I think they are 1in tube diameter. I'm leaning towards a 30mm with good eye relief for a recoil heavy calibre

The 1 inch tube doesn’t scare me if I’m not shooting real far, which I don’t. The Leupold 2.5-8x36 has almost an inch more eye relief than the Trijicon. It just has a really short tube.

The Leupold 2.5-8x36 has almost an inch more eye relief than the Trijicon. It just has a really short tube.

Ive had both on a long action model 70 and eye relief wasnt an issue with either one.

It does have a short tube, but it looks really nice and compact if you can get it to fit. I used Leupold QRW rings and bases on my 375 A-Bolt; it JUUUUUUUUST does fit.
