MOZAMBIQUE: Little Rock To Tete

Great write up. Looking forward to this one. Fellow Little Rock native

Coutada 9 is some of the best plains game hunting available. You should do very well.

It is amazing to see how much poorer the people live in Moz. compared to SA or even Zimbabwe

Great hunting right in front of the camp. Prolly off limits though.

Day 4

Around 5:30 AM, we headed back out into the bush for another day's hunt. Our destination was the new blind we had built just yesterday afternoon, situated next to a very large pond. The trackers had spotted fresh Livingstone Eland tracks there, so anticipation was high.

Unfortunately, when we reached the water, the Elands had already beaten us to the punch. The herd instantly busted and ran off in the opposite direction, but not before we caught sight of them—one of the bulls was a definite, bona-fide shooter.

A short time after getting settled into the blind, a different herd of Eland materialized, consisting of several females and another bull. I would have gladly taken a shot, but the bull simply wouldn't commit to coming all the way down to the water. Over the next four hours, a steady stream of game kept us entertained: waterbuck, impala, kudu, baboons, and a few really good warthogs. Under normal circumstances, I would have dropped the string on one of those hogs, but we didn't want to risk scaring off the Eland bulls if they were still lingering nearby. The bulls never did reappear, and by noon, we threw in the towel and headed back to camp for lunch.

That afternoon, we switched tactics and decided to drive around a bit to scout new ground. We saw a number of animals on our drive. When we reached our destination we parked the truck and went on a foot.

It was a tough go. The ground was incredibly dry and crackly; we might as well have been walking on broken glass. We managed to spot a fair amount of game, but only saw their back ends as they bolted. It became crystal clear that spot-and-stalk hunting was going to be tough if we didn’t get some

moisture. We gave it our best go but the sun soon dipped below the horizon with no animals taken, but the fire was lit.

Huntforever- I've hunted with Doug before and he is a top notch guy. Tell him I said hello. Was in Zim with them in 2015 buffalo hunting. Was probably the best hunt of my life.
Hoping to book with them in Moz when they finally get Dangerous game bowhunting back in. Still not legal according to Gary & Neil.
Good luck! By the way, I'm not too far away from you in Tulsa.......Jim

I really hope the government will clarify the current laws and allow bow hunting for dangerous game.
