I ran into a couple of problems with zebra wood. The warping was one. The other was tear out whenever I cut or planed it. It has a hardness rating slightly greater than hickory, so it’s tough to mill. Lots of sanding to erase the tear out. But, the result made it worthwhile.
 
Tear out on these kinds of wood happen alot. Sharp blades and min depth cuts will help but not totally eliminate it.

Damn this beautiful thing makes me wish I was more handy. Turned out fantastic. I too love these, so want one, but also not sure when/where I would use one. Visiting Mac last September, he brought his along to the public lands where we were shooting. I also shoot at my club that has racks everywhere. I could still bring my own, greatly superior one, I guess.

Hell, I would put it in the house somewhere at the very least. Anyway, well done sir.

Mine will spend most of its time in my study. I’ll load it with my safari rifles and look longingly at it.
 
Very, very nice. Love the grain in the zebra wood. Well done! Craft stores often carry leather strips of perhaps 4 ft in length and an inch or more wide. If you need some finished leather, you might find what you need in a craft store.

The leather arrived this afternoon. I’ve already started cutting it for glue up tomorrow.
