Interarms whitworth 375 H&H?

Great rifle .
a little on the light side as factory set up
accessory Sub MOA
Had one for over 40 years will never sell it.
Many after market stocks 98 Mauser on the market I would look for one with the two cross bolts in the stock for the 375

For the money, they are hard to beat.
The early ones had soldered on front and rear sights - later screwed on. That doesn't seem to matter price wise as I don't think anybody notices that.
As david jr said, a little on the light side but that allows the addition of a scope that doesn't need to be light itself - that is, if you're planning on a scoped setup.
I notice that some sellers think they have some premium rifle on their hands but they still come up often enough at around $1500 you can just ignore the ones offered for $3K up.

I prefer the earlier production that have the unbroken checkering on forearm of stock. The later ones have a dividing line through the checkering on each side of the wraparound pattern. Look at pics of them, you will see what I mean.

It's a Zastava type gun. Built on a similar or the same action. I don't know what percent of the rifle was actually finished in the UK. Probably the stocks only if that. The last Parker hales are similar.

Are the Mark X rifles the same barreled actions as the whitworth? Just a different finish and stock?

Mark X (Interarms Mark X)

  • Yes, these are Zastava rifles. The vast majority (if not all) of Interarms Mark X rifles were made by Zastava in Yugoslavia (now Serbia). They are commercial Mauser 98-style actions (often described as close copies of FN commercial Mausers). Barreled actions were typically produced in Zastava, then often finished/stocked in England (Manchester) for Interarms import to the US.

Whitworth (often called Interarms Whitworth or Whitworth Mark X)

  • Yes, these are also Zastava-based. The Whitworth-branded rifles sold by Interarms were built on ZastavaMauser actions. They were a higher-grade or better-stocked version of the Mark X line (fancier wood, etc.). Many were assembled or finished in England.

Parker Hale

  • Not consistently Zastavas. Parker-Hale (a British company) used a mix of actions over the years for their commercial sporting rifles (e.g., models like 1000, 1100, 1200 series):
    • Early ones: Often surplus Mauser 98 actions or Spanish Santa Barbara Mauser actions.
    • Later ones: Many used Zastava commercial Mauser actions. So some Parker Hales are Zastava-based, but not all (especially earlier production).

Quick Summary

RiflePrimarily Zastava?Notes
Mark XYesAlmost all are Zastava Mauser actions
WhitworthYesZastava actions, often nicer grade
Parker HalePartiallyMix of Santa Barbara, surplus, and Zastava

There was frequent confusion between Parker-Hale and Interarms/Zastava imports because they looked similar and both used strong Mauser-style actions.

There are also VOERE rifles. These are either Santa Barbera actions or military Mausers or FN's. None of these are supposed to be Zastavas.

Yes. They are Zastava Mausers. They have been sold as the Whitworths, H&R 340, the Interarms Mark X, Charles Daly, Remington 798, and most recently and currently under the Zastava name as the M70

If I remember correctly I was looking at a Interarms 375 couple years back. I was told in this forum that the action could be an issue. I decided to pass based on the recommendation. Fit finish seemed nice to me and felt lighter than my 30-06

I have a Whitworth Safari Express with a jeweled bolt and magazine follower. It's accurate and solid. I don't think you can get a respectable DG caliber rifle for much less. The express sights (100, 200, 300 yds) English style stock dimensions, barrel band sling swivel

and the ebony fore end with the cross bolt make it classic.

I bought a Whitworth 375 H&H 15 years ago, and it accounted for hippo, croc, leopard, kudu, klippspringer and jackal on a 2024 safari in the Zambezi valley of Zimbabwe. It is accurate enough - 1 MOA or less. It is wearing at least the 2nd stock.

The original description:
" For Sale: Interarms Mark X in .375 H&H Magnum. 24" barrel with Christy's Barrel Band front
sight, gold bead. Barreled action and bottom metal are matte finished. Walnut stock is brand
new Rem 798 from Stocky's with full length glass bedding and a Brockmans Magnum Sling
Stud. I have the original tupperware synthetic that will ship with the rifle as well. Bold
adjustable trigger. Williams FP aperture sight. Very nice working .375 mauser action with CRF. "

In the event, I removed the aperture sight and put on a Zeiss Duraly 2x8 scope. I guess it is just a Whitworth, not a Whitworth Safari Express as pictured above, since it doesn't have a barrel band sling stud. I presume that is why the previous owner added the Brockmans sling stud.

The first three pictures below are from the original ad; the last photo shows it in Zimbabwe, next to a leopard blind.

Nice rifle and great hunting score!

I had one and stupidly traded it. Resonably accurate. It was a little light, but I replaced it with an even lighter Sako. IMO, for the money, they’re tough to beat.

Mine does not appear to have the checkering line shown in @roklok's photo.
I'm curious to know what year yours was made; there should be a month and year stamped just forward of the bolt handle. I have two that were made in mid-1985, and they both have the checkering line that @roklok referred to. Both have been excellent rifles and accurate shooters.

I will have to check. I don't think its visible without removing the stock.
