I have a box of Buffalo Bore 45-70 Magnum, 430 grain factory loads. Does anyong know if they are safe to shoot in a rifle stamped "45-70 Govt"? A friend is giving up big game hunting and asked me to sell some of his ammo. I don't want to steer a buyer wrong.

They are as long as it has a modern action. Don't use them in the old trap door actions and such. Mine is a marlin, you can beef the old round up pretty good. Even more so if you have a ruger #1. I load 300gr noslers for mine. Grand old cartridge.

Thanks, guys. I've heard the Marlin 1895 levers can handle the magnums, but not trapdoors. You've confirmed it.
