All three of these "members" are selling high end optics at rock bottom pricing at the same time. I asked MarcoPolo57 for references on his S&B scope, and he listed the other two as references. Huntingbiggun responded to my inquiry within 60 seconds. Hunter06FLKY contacted me out of the blue. Again, all three of them are selling high end optics at what I perceive to be below market pricing right now. They are all also lowering the prices on the optics quickly. If this is some crazy coincidence, I apologize to all three members, but something seems wrong here.

Here is what grok had to say:
Hunter06FLKY = old 2005 username ripped from another US hunting site (FL dude, thousands of posts), slapped onto a brand-new 2023 AH profile claiming “now living in Austria.” Zero history here till the optics flood.

MarcoPolo57 = 2019 join (only 8 posts ever), total ghost till this week.

Huntingbiggun = legit 2011 fossil (268 msgs, old rifle threads), dormant as hell, now suddenly “selling Leicas cheap.”

Two revived zombies + one stolen-identity freshie, all waking up together, cross-vouching, price-dropping like pros. Fresh scam energy on dusty old bones. Members nailed it—steer clear or your cash disappears faster than elk

All the same person.

Tricky little fuckers aren't they!

I assume one of the member's account was hacked?

Also notice they leave out words in all their messages to me which almost always show a foreign scammer in my experience unless we know them and english is not their first language and they let us know in their reports

I feel like a good question to be asking is why this pattern is emerging so much now on AH? Obviously there is and always will be scammers. But it feels recent that there are so many scammers accessing legitimate old accounts and weaponizing them.

It helps them bypass something most people check first which is how long a member has been on the forum before posting a "for sale" item.

But it does bother me that scammers are able to access so many legit older accounts. I wonder if that's something @BRICKBURN or @AfricaHunting.com could look into.

Feels like a security threat that might need to be addressed.

Thank you @Beck for bringing this to our attention, all accounts have been dealt with.

@Sabre, Scammers make it their job to scam people.

Scammers are getting more sophisticated so it is for us to protect ourselves.

>>> NOTICE TO ALL MEMBERS <<<

::: PLEASE CHANGE YOUR AH PASSWORDS :::

::: MAKE YOUR PASSWORD UNIQUE TO AH ONLY :::

::: PROTECT YOURSELF FROM SCAMMERS :::

EXTREMELY IMPORTANT NOTICE

I want to be very clear, unequivocally these accounts were not hacked on AH. The most likely cause of what has transpired lately is that users/members are being phished into sharing the password or maybe they are using weak or common passwords, even on multiple websites/platforms. It is also a possibility that other websites where members use the same password and even perhaps the same username could have been hacked (read below about the "mother of all leaks" that occurred in June 2025). Sometimes this information is also sold on the dark web as scammers know that people often use the same or similar passwords for many accounts.

This has occurred multiple times now on the site, but this is happening all over on the internet and the answer is simple, I encourage and recommend members to change their passwords to something unique and strong by using a combination of multiple numbers, letters and characters.

I have said it before but it bears repeating for everyone safety and security everywhere online, I whole heartedly recommend to use different passwords for all of your accounts and a good way to do that is to use a password manager like 1Password and there are others like it. This was one of the best decisions I've made security and time management wise. If you do online banking such a tool is a necessity, you will not regret it but if you don't you might. Things can happen very quickly in this digital landscape where we are all buying, selling and banking. It may save you a lot of grief, perhaps money and make your life so much easier...

Here is some information that you all should read:
Recent Facebook-related breaches include a large-scale leak of 16 billion login credentials in June 2025, which exposed passwords and put users at risk of fraud and identity theft from malware-infected files.

The June 2025 Password Leak
What Happened: An enormous leak of 16 billion login credentials, including passwords, exposed users of Facebook, Google, Apple, and other platforms.
Cause: Researchers found the breach originated from malware, which targets users who download corrupted files and have weak password habits.
Impact: This "mother of all leaks" has put millions at risk of fraud and identity theft, particularly in developing nations with less robust cybersecurity.
What to Do: Users are advised to change their passwords and switch from passwords to passkeys for greater security.

USE UNIQUE AND DIFFICULT PASSWORDS FOR EVERY ACCOUNT... THERE ARE SO MANY SCAMS OUT THERE.

Credit to our own IT Security Expert @sgt_zim for these great TIPS to avoid getting scammed online.

On sites that offer 2 step verification, it's imperative that one signs up for that also.

Definitely a scam

Good job! Thanks for your diligence…

These degenerate types (scammers) make it very difficult to transact with legitimate members because of the additional vetting process…

I bought a scope here recently and put the poor seller through a painful process over something normally benign, but it introduced doubt. It was just an exhausting process because I didn’t want to be scammed and I also felt bad for asking for additional proof. In the end it worked out…

I also feel guilty when vetting sellers, but in reality we shouldn't. Any seller who expresses contempt to the vetting process is disqualified in my mind, there are too many scams out there today to do it any other way. In fact, given all the scams, perhaps there should be a standard vetting process for anything sold on the website - just an idea

Both as a buyer and a seller it keeps me from engaging in the marketplace. It is just much less exhausting to do face to face sales locally. Which is unfortunate because things obviously sell a lot faster in a "global" marketplace. Especially guns and ammo which have such a limited number of places you can post them.

I have many guns and some ammo and some scopes I have considered posting, but one time of getting scammed does offset the benefit rather quickly. Of course talking on the phone and getting pictures etc is an easy way to protect yourself, but the scammers and tools for doing it are getting extremely sophisticated compared to the past.

I've been on many a boards in my day. I must say "we" do a much better job on this topic than most. I like the fact we call out potential issues and protect each other. I have purchased probably 10 things on this site and have had zero problem because of our diligence.
