South Africa Safari Hunt — Review
Trophy Hunting Safari · South Africa · May 2026
Overview
We had an absolutely outstanding experience with Meyrick Bowker at @MEYRICK BOWKER SAFARIS on this South African hunt and cannot recommend it highly enough. From the moment we arrived, it was clear we were in the hands of professionals who genuinely love what they do. The equipment and guns provided were in excellent condition, well-maintained and perfectly suited to the terrain. Every logistical detail had been thought through, and the team was warm, professional, and genuinely invested in making sure we had the best possible experience.
Hunt
Sixteen animals taken across the trip, with every single tag filled. The hunting was everything we hoped for and more, with a mix of ranges that kept every day exciting and challenging. Most shots came in around 200 yards. A member wanted to take a long shot. It was the shot everyone was talking about was a clean 511-yard drop of a Wildebeest. Each animal was special in its own way - a slow stalk of a gemsbok and moving around a group of sables so we were not busted. A waiting game with a warthog and watching it chasing piglets away. A cliff shot on an Impala. A rolling hill ambush of a Wildebeest. But the undisputed trophy of the trip was a monster Kudu — a truly magnificent animal and the kind of bull that makes a South African hunt legendary. An absolute once-in-a-lifetime moment that none of us will ever forget.
Lodging
The lodge was comfortable, well-kept, and run by genuinely wonderful people who made us feel at home from day one. Daily laundry service, everything was always clean and ready to go. The housekeeping was impeccable. This is the kind of place where the staff takes pride in every detail, and it shows. Great lodge, great people.
Food
Simply perfect. Each day started with a light breakfast to fuel the morning hunt, followed by a good lunch and then — the highlight — a fantastic dinner every single evening. Genuinely five-star food from start to finish.
What made it truly special was that nearly everything on the table was wild-harvested — either by the group before us or by our own party during the hunt. We enjoyed kudu, warthog, gemsbok, and many other incredible cuts. But the undisputed favorite at the table? Zebra. Yes, zebra — and it was absolutely delicious. A memory none of us will forget.
Since we tagged out early, Meyrick asked if we would like to cap the adventure with another experience. We decided to go to Addo Elephant Park for the day. Just a great day where we saw elephants, zebras, giraffes, a lion and a cape buffalo.
Ultimately it is the people that make a hunt like this Meyrick the PH and his team were exceptional — knowledgeable, patient, and deeply experienced. They gave us great advice throughout the hunt and always demonstrated a true understanding of animal behavior in the field. It made every stalk and every moment in the bush feel confident and well-guided. You could tell this wasn’t just a job for them; it was a passion.
