Janneman,

With price including all bait animals and pre-baiting, how many days would you typically pre-bait for this hunt? What are the typical bait animals targeted?

I'm booked up for October, so will admit in advance my questions are mostly for my education and future reference. I just had not seen many offers that included all bait animals and pre-baiting, so I couldn't help re-read the full offer and ask.

Cheers,
Will

Will- Thank you for your email.

We are already baiting for this hunt scheduled for later this year. We use gemsbok and zebra as bait, both during the pre-baiting phase and throughout the hunt itself. This allows the leopard to become familiar with reliable food sources and accustomed to visiting multiple bait sites across the ranch.

We also have an opening available in August if you are able to bring your hunt forward.

Yes, our offer includes all bait animals used both before and during the hunt. Many hunters are attracted by what appears to be a lower-priced hunt, only to discover later that they are charged separately for every bait animal, which can add up to a significant additional expense.

We hope to welcome you to Namibia for this unforgettable experience. Please let me know if you have any questions or would like to discuss available dates.

Kind regards,

Janneman

@Kalahari Safari NAMIBIA
That's cheaper than what my PH was charging six years ago
Some people don't understand the cost but when you take into consideration the amount of work that goes in pre hunt is unbelievable.
For a leopard hunt with my OH the work began two weeks prior to the hunt collecting baits, finding the animals and hanging said baits, building blinds etc, etc. All this prior work takes time, staff and money and no-one does all that for free.
Sometimes is going to get a good value hunt.

I have been on 2 successful Leopard hunts, 2 more where we couldn't get a male on bait, them another where I passed up on shooting a legal but youngish male. Yes, it is a very meticulous, time consuming, and high effort hunt which sometimes ends with no kill

This is a GREAT DEAL, and all of the hard work will be done before the hunter arrives.

I think the reason that it's still for available is that even though its a steal, $23,500 is still alot of money to most people, especially these days.

If I could afford it, I would be all over it

Thanks Bob- yes, it takes a lot of work and preparation. We are already baiting for this hunt (which is available in October) And with all bait animals included in price, there are no surprises for the client and extra costs. - Janneman

Yes, it is still a lot of money. Totally agree. But with this package, there are no surprises to the client with ALL bait animals included. We have already started baiting. All the best!- Janneman

No my friend, I am NOT saying that your hunt is a lot of money for what you are offering, what I meant was that for the average working guy, 23.5K is a lot of money in general.

Again, you price is very reasonable

EVERYTHING is more expensive these days. A brand new Jeep Wrangler is $68,000 now for Gods sake. A 20 round box of 300 Weatherby ammo is over $100.

I killed 2 leopards already, and if I had the money I would have bought your hunt in 1 second, especially since I struck out on leopard in 2005 in Namibia with a PH who had no idea what he was doing, and I didn't know any better. It was BEAUTIFUL country near Kamanjab-outjo with leopard tracks everywhere yet he couldn't get a leopard on bait

Knowing what I know now from 5 leopard hunts, and 2 field studies, I never had a chance

So for that reason I would love to go back to Namibia and hunt leopard again

@Bob Nelson 35Whelen - I agree this is a good deal for a leopard hunt and someone is going to have a fabulous hunt for a great price. I have personally hunted twice with Janneman and he is a great PH and a better person. If I did not already have a leopard hunt earlier this year I would have booked this hunt already.

And Bob, just to be clear, I would use my 338 Win Mag for the hunt! ;)

@Houston Bill
There you go again bringing out the big guns.
My PHs favourite leopard rifle is a 25-06 loaded with 117-120gn projectiles.

I think the 25-06 loaded with 117 to 120 gn bullets is an excellent choice for leopard. My 338 is a tack driver so I have a lot of confidence in that rifle. For leopard you want speed and violent bullet expansion. With the 25-06 and 117-120 gn bullets you are probably looking at 3,000 - 3150 fps and if you use bullets that will dramatically open inside the cat and create hydrostatic shock you have perfect medicine for killing that leopard......provided you put the bullet in the right place!

You is a funny man. Your 338 wumpchester may be a tack driver but there's one big problem.
You ain't driving tacks you are hunting and shooting game with it.
Why crack walnuts with a sledgehammer when there's better tools.
It's easier to shoot 25-06 accurately than a fire breathing magnum. Dang even the full power mild mannered Whelen is easier to shoot. The beauty of these two cartridges is they are accurate and kill game well.
If'n I'm going to drive racks I will use a hammer. Whilst the 338 may drive tacks it probably messes up the wood at the same time. Just go to your local box store and buy a hammer for driving tacks mate the 338 is just not the right tool for that job.
Bob

@Bob Nelson 35Whelen
Truth be told, in my memory remained one of the strongest kicking rifles I ever experienced was Winchester XPR in 338 win mag. I was zeroing for a friend, and I was not impressed with accuracy.

That's a good leopard deal for sure. I am already booked elsewhere but would be good for someone to go!
