I was mulling over what are the biggest threats to hunting. There are actual threats and perceived threats. As this is a poll, it focuses on perceived threats (some may or may not be the actual worst). So I was curious what this group, hunters, believes to be true.

I opted for allowing up to 3 choices to get a sense of folk’s view of the top3.
 
My 2¢, biggest threat is from within, the fading culture of hunting as a pastime and the costs associated with it.
 
I had a problem choosing only three options, there are more factors. But there it is.

It is perfect example, with their wildlife management in modern political environment.

I totally agree with this. But I also believe that passing it along is becoming increasingly more difficult because of cost and access. A lot of folks on this site - IMHO - are not the norm, as far as economic bracket. It's tough to pass along something that does come with start up costs to a blue collar sort who can find his entertainment value somewhere else for less money and a more immediate return on his time.

Agreed and to that I will add.......

1. People buying up acreage and then not hunting and not allowing others to hunt; when I was in high school in Texas there were only a couple of land owners that would NOT let us hunt, now there is only a couple of owners that will.

2. The toxic sports culture, lots of kids would be interested but the parents are so obsessed with sports and the dream of their child going college or pro makes these people literally insane.

3. As you said cost..... Working people would love to take their kids out but can't afford to and youth who are not exposed to hunting at home/supported by family are out of luck putting together the money to afford even local hunting.

You can shit talk young people all you want to, but I assure you there are young people today that would put you to shame in the outdoors, but their held back by the crippling cost and more often than not their parents who put their own selfish desires before the kids.
 
I'll just speak for Wyoming, but declining access (not habitat) is a big one and it links to costs. I didn't see it on your list, but I doubled up with cost + over-hunting, which is what happens everywhere else when the access gets all tied up. That said, there's no decline in hunting interest here.
 
Funny, I picked the two top categories. Fading culture and loss of habitat due to development. With both of those two being the top 2, the third, which isn't really directly listed:

Banning/outlawing of hunting in general due to lack of legislative support.
 
Question for our foreign members, is hunting a fading pastime in your country?
 
Where I live you either have to own the land or have enough money to either rent or buy the land. Gone are the days of getting permission from a local. Public land is available but very crowded. I am able to get permission to hunt squirrels on a couple properties but nothing else. But you know what? I enjoy hunting squirrels a lot more than deer. Deer hunting in Indiana is basically sitting hours on end in a blind bored out of your mind hoping something walks by. Sneaking up on as squirrel with all the leaves still on trees with a 22 is harder and lots more fun.

Actually it is the opposite in New Zealand, there are more Wild Free Range Animals & large trophies than in my entire life in the last 10yrs or so !

This has encouraged many new hunters, Bow hunters (as before only Robin Hood would get a animal) females & city folk, foreign immigrants (mainly for food gathering) unfortunately a lot of these people are also stupid & have no outdoor knowledge, increasing risk to both them & us the old school hunters who started when game was nonexistent.

Technology has also helped them with GPS - PLB - Trail Cams - Thermal imaging & now even more the use of Drones !!

you hunt with a scope
you hunt over bait
you hunt CBL
you hunt this way, you hunt that way, if you dont hunt my way you're not ethical, you're not moral, we need to make your way illegal. That will make hunting better......until there is none left.
 
I actually checked off everything (except the climate hoax thing) but was only allowed 3 They are grooming the young people to accept their ways . Example-someone in New York figured out by banning BB and pellet guns that they would gradually have an effect on the culture of people brought up with these items given as gifts and such. So they bsnned Bb guns
