New Lipseys Hawkeye African in .270 Winchester?

Are they making the African in a .30-06 now?
 
I clearly recall seeing a Ruger 77 MKII 30-06 built out like the African on Cabela's Gun Library.
This was a couple of years before Bass Pro bought Cabela's and the notion of classic firearms gave way to black rifles and pistols. The Gun Library was never the same.

It could have been a special run for Cabelas. I planned to have it shipped into my local Cabelas in Gonzales LA.
I snoozed and I lost.
That particular rifle was gone in less than 1 week.

While I have a Ruger 77 MKII RSEX Express rifle (all the African features and a machined integral quarter rib (nice!) I would buy an African in 30-06 in a heartbeat.

If Lispseys ordered a run of these, I bet they would sell out quickly

I agree, I have been begging for a .30-06 WITH A 24" BARREL like the other African models. I do not think Ruger has ever made a bolt action .30-06 with anything other than a 22" barrel.

But for a 2 rifle battery for North America, I think the Ruger Hawkeye African in 270 Win and the same model in 35 Whelen make a lot of sense. So much so that I now have both of them.

I see the 270 and 30-06 as the perfect pair. I have Winchester M70s in both calibers. The 270 is a featherweight loaded with 130gr Solid Base at 3100 fps. It makes for a handy open country deer and pronghorn rifle. The 30-06 is a pre-64 standard rifle loaded with 200gr Partitions at 2650. The 200gr Partition penetrates extremely well on bigger animals like elk and moose. It pretty much put my 338 out to pasture!

But, each rifle could be used interchangeably if needed. I could load 130gr TTSX or 150gr Partitions in the 270 and hunt elk. I could load 150gr Sierras in the 30-06 and take it mule deer hunting.

I'd point your attention to the latest Lipsey's exclusives for the Ruger #1 as well. The 22 hornet in a full mannlicher stock, the 257 weatherby, and the 275 Rigby light sporter are also pretty interesting configurations.

I feel your pain, stupidity away from some great deals myself.
 
I feel your pain too I am torn on a bunch of these I need a youth rifle but looking at the Winchester 70 featherweight in 7mm-08 and then I am looking at the 270 for myself and even the 300 win mag for myself for an elk hunt but in that or the Alaskan

A 30-06 or a 8x57 would be a nice option if they come out with it. Been waiting especially with the fact that they've done runs in 9.3mm, 7x57, 6.5x55. One would assume a 30-06 or 8x57 would fit the african model well. The 280 A.I. and 35 whelen are the one's that doesn't make sense to me. They should have offered those in Alaskan style trim and option.

Just can't resist but at least it's a step up from a 243, an other over ratted cartridge in my book regardless of rifle.
Just because it has the African moniker don't make it more functional in my book, just more expensive.
