458JCE & the B&M Super Shorts

Gday Michael & 458jce
Thanks for kind words although it’s one that I can’t relay in words how humbled I feel with them
You guys have a rung or 2 on me

I had a chat with Fordy tonight - wealth of experience there (y)
Thanks Fordy!

You are 100% spot on ........... and on top of that, a pretty good chap as I calculate.... consider Fordy a good friend........ Man I have some really good friends down under, Paul T, Daryl, Fordy now Evan, and Sarg too, and I thought the whole bunch of you were a bunch of hooligans before...... HEH HEH.....
Below count me in x2
LOL "A bunch of hooligans" probably isn't far off the mark! Speaking only for myself of course.....
Well I was going to say ratbags as then we know we would be safe from Michael as he stays clear of anything to do with rat in it lol

Hmmm @PaulT did you ever get Michael to tackle one of our big rats aka the kangaroo

Cheers

I reckon you would have scientifically tested more large-calibre bullets than anyone else (except maybe michael458) on the planet. Thanks for the info on the .510 bullets (y)

Hey Fordy.

No, I never introduced Michael to our Roos.

We hunted in Eastern Arnhemland where there were only very few Wallaby.
The Dingo's are protected and take on heck of a toll on the Wallaby population and so it was an "event" to actually ever see one.
I would go a full season some years and not see one.
The Dingo population was quite ridiculous actually.

Are they actually dingos or just wild dogs there.
Gumpy

Yes, they're yellow dingo-like dogs. The blackfellas (for our American colleagues, this is not a derrogatory term) believe the dingos carry ancestral spirits in NT, so they're protected. However, I am told that they are not immune to small spinning high velocity lumps of metal.....

That’s interesting, we weren’t far from you were we at Gan Gan ?

We had lots of Agile Wallaby & on a special seaward rocky peninsula big Black Wallaroos, even if Parks say there is none out there, some few Emu (locals eat a lot of them) & thousands of Dingos .

Not sure if our tribes cared about them that much, seems different areas have different ideas on such ?

When I first went out there way way back, absolutely no Red Bulls & next to no pigs only the occasional ferocious huge Boar that Dingos must of had trouble killing, then a few of the most vicious Sows you ever saw, would charge you from 50yds, then more & more, then one year Red Bulls appeared, then knee deep in Cane Toads, all the Snakes , Goannas & Frilly Necks disappeared, no Barra or Saratoga took a frog lure again .

Did just start to see some Frillys when I left.

Hey Grumpy, I'm no expert on Dingos/wild dogs.
They look like Dingos to me ?
Whatever they are there's just too many of them. Way out of balance.
Them and the Whistling/Brown/Fork-tailed kites, it's a wonder anything small, bird or mamal survives.

Very interesting observations Sarg.
No, I wasn't all that far from you guys at Gan Gan. Prolly only 300k's, maybe less.
Wasn't uncommon for me to go an entire season and not see a Wallaby.
They became more common after a few years of me doing regular seasonal burns.
Plenty of Red skins and Buff, the only pig we would see would be 100kg+ Boars.
Very few reptiles other than the too common Brown, Whip and Copperhead snakes.
Yes, in certain places I would see Frillys but not common.
Plenty of billabong locked Barra too.

Mark David took a decent pig with his 475 Super Short........ this was 2012 I think... he had not yet turned into the mini hulk (as Matthew calls him)

Paul, you know I don't have a photo of that big redskin I put the Indian sneak on, that was the biggest Red Skin ever taken in history of the world, and I don't have a photo anywhere.... I must go look for that, I know I have to have one........ The one you shot also for no reason at all.......

I'm pretty sure I've got some pics of that here at home.
Surprised you haven't got any.
I could send-em to you, maybe send you the ones with me sitting behind it o_O

I am going through photos now and have not run across any yet and I know we took some... You know I have that thing mounted here...... Biggest Redskin in History of the world......... Shot with an over size bore, and the damn CEB Raptors and Solids are so good, they still drove deep and straight in that thing..... that is when we discovered that this rifle had oversize bore, we recovered the base of the Raptor after 4 ft+ penetration, and it did not have a lick of engraving on it............Got back, they put a new barrel on it, and I have never fired that rifle again.........

I could send-em to you, maybe send you the ones with me sitting behind it
Smartass....... Yeah, well you shot it for no reason, not sure you hit it however...... LOL

:E Lol::E Rofl:

Let me know if you can't find them and I'll send them over.

17 Scrub Bull with Lott.jpg

This is the trip (SEP 2012) where I tested North Forks and the 458JCE - this Red Ox with a 450gr SS from my Lott. Simon estimated him as a ton of beef (1000kg). Didn't know someone had beaten me to the Northern Territory with these "pipsqueak" cartridges :E Laugh:

Yes, that is him...........Biggest Redskin that every lived and he was old as a dinosaur....... Probably why I was able to sneak up on him, so old he could not hear or see...... LOL..........

I will be looking for a set of these when my .505 is done... sadly not cashed up right now for these. :(
Need anything in trade?
Cheers,

what kind of velocity does the 140 grains list, curious how they would fit in with my current 130 gr, supply of 270s. maybe a pic of the box data listing vel. and drop. Oh and complements on that ammo belt, nice.
