Cutting Heym Martini Barrel To 22""

I have been thinking about cutting barrel on my Heym Martini 416 Rigby from 24" to 22" . I have an AHR with a 22" and it feels handier .

Turning a $10k+ rifle into a $5000 rifle in one easy step.

Preferences aside, you may cut it down which of course is going to affect velocity of the 416 with many loads. This will restrict you to powders that 100% burn in 22". Beyond that, I'd caution you that it may not handle the way your other rifle does after all this modification anyway, but once you do this, if you do not like it, you'll take a hell of a haircut on it.

If you don't love it, sell it for top dollar and get a different rifle, otherwise you're destroying its value and you may hate the outcome anyway.

Go for it...I like 22 inches max...my 416 Rigbys in the old days ;) had 22 inch barrels....but I never see bought a gun to worry about the value...it was for me and for me to enjoy.....also don't like long barrels...and to me that is over 22 inches on a bolt gun

Hmm… an alternative idea. Keep the original barrel untouched and set aside. Rebarrel as short as you want. The resale loss from shorting the original barrel would more than cover the cost of a rebarrel. Heck, with the NFA tax for SBRs no longer required, you could shorten down to the forend tip and have a one of a kind HEYM 416 with a full length Mannlicher stock . (May make it a really loud 405 win performance-wise though…)

If you aren't cutting it to SBR length, tac welding a chunk of shotgun tube to it, and JB welding remaining components back together, what are you really doing with your life? :ROFLMAO:

A touch of Krylon will cover the JB.

Really??? Cut this to 22"? Well, it is your gun, so go ahead. But, I wouldn't. This is not a shotgun and you do not need "fast handling", you need accurate shooting as you are not in a gun fight. The 24" barrel offers better balance and hence, better accuracy. But if you must... do what you can afford.

This is like putting low riders on a Bentley...

Taking a rifle that was designed by the most accomplished artisans in the trade, who put their lifetime of experience and skills into their work, in order to perfectly meld function, artistic form, handling, and performance, and chopping it shorter to make it "handy" seems like taking a perfectly aged & rare single malt scotch and mixing it with cola. If that's what you like, go ahead. At some level it's only money. But you can't be my campfire buddy. We'd argue.

An honest question: if one spec'd the rifle with a 22" barrel on order, would they deliver as asked? Or is 24" their only option?

Well, I understand. 22 is a preference. I was curious if MNR, or someone could accommodate a 26" down to a 22". I guess that would completely be counterintuitive to the build

Gorgeous rifle! I would comment with my opinion but (nobody cares and...) upon further inspection that caliber would justify a haircut on the barrel. Be sure to post after the alteration is made.

Should be re-engraved as the "Lorena Bobbit" model....after cutting it.

Anime Slayer APK is honestly one of the best anime apps I’ve ever used. It’s packed with a massive collection of both popular and underrated titles, and everything streams smoothly without interruptions. I appreciate how well it runs even on mid-range Android devices.

Between Blak Rock and Pocahontas, I did not want to say that on the forum. That's a nice Cat!
