Howdy all! I've been fairly absent on here over the last few months. Work has been crazy, we are in a period of unprecedented growth at my company. I am now managing 8 inspectors over 15 states, all while managing my own inspection territory while we look for my replacement! If only I could get 2 salaries.....

I've also taken to competing in strongman competitions. I enjoy training in the gym, the competitions give me a goal to set sights on. If I'm not working or hunting I am probably at the gym!

Sitting at 38 days out from my 2026 safari, leaving May 5th. I will be taking the entire month of May off work, we have 17 hunting days planned. Hunting with Scot and Katie Burchell of Burchell-Wolf Safaris. I've hunted with Scot's dad and brothers down at Frontier in South Africa. Starting in the Caprivi for cape buffalo for a week, then heading to hunt two areas in the middle of the country near Etosha.

Four plane rides going over, 3 to return. STL to Newark, Newark to Johannesburg, Johannesburg to Windhoek, Windhoek to Katima Mulillo. We will drive from the Caprivi down to the other hunting areas then fly back to Johannesburg out of Windhoek.

I'll be taking my trusty 30-06 model 70 which has been a faithful companion on many hunts, and I picked up a model 70 in 458wm for buffalo. Plains game on the menu will be eland, kudu, red hartebeest, mountain zebra, and I wont pass up a big warthog! My 30-06 shoots the factory Nosler 180 grain Partition load extremely well, so that is my old standby. I will be taking Buffalo Bore loaded 450gr Barnes TSX and factory Barnes 450gr banded solids for the 458. It's shooting both of those loads quite well.

My wife is coming with me, we have some side excursions planned as well. Etosha and the Skeleton Coast and who knows what else. We have a half day and overnight in Windhoek so we will see where that leads as well. Depending on the hunting, she would like to see Victoria Falls, so if the buffalo comes early, who knows. I would not mind seeing the red dunes in the desert or even the town of Swakopmund.

The excitement is building to it's crescendo! I've already started a bit of packing and getting things organized and ready. All that's left now is working, waiting, and shooting.

Hope you all have a great weekend!

Dan

Good luck on the hunt, sounds like an awesome trip, hope you get everything you want and maybe a few extras!

Sounds like it will be an awesome safari. Happy trails and happy hunting.

Appreciate you all! I'll be shooting the 458 today with my dad, and organizing more gear. I told my wife to start laying out all of her stuff as well.

One big thing for me is that I have to buy all new clothes. I've lost 120 pound since my 2024 safari, so none of that stuff fits anymore or even exists in this house for that matter!

If you have a bit of time in Windhoek and are going out for dinner can I recommend “ The Cape Town Fish Market “. We ate there last week and the food and general ambience was excellent. It’s in Klein Windhoek just of the top of Nelson Mandela Avenue. The security guard totes an M16 so I reckon you’ll be safe !

We visited Joe’s Beerhouse at the beginning of the trip but I regret to say the food did not live up to the standards of previous visits. It has had a few changes in ownership in the last few years and I suppose everyone wants to put their own mark on things.

Appreciate the recommendation, I will keep that one in mind! We do have plans for a dinner out. Sad to hear that about Joe's as that came recommended as well. Might stop in just for a beer to check it out.

Get the oysters. And a beer.

I’ve been following B-W for a possible Namibia plains game/bird hunt. Will be looking forward to your long detailed report with many photos when you get home. Hope it’s a great experience for you and your wife-

Cape Town fish market is incredible. We feasted. Was nice to get back into the city. Nice white wines, incredible service. It’s literally one of my favorite restaurants in the world… crazy. A damn sushi restaurant in Windhoek Namibia.

I highly recommend it when in Windhoek

Maybe we'll bump into each other, but we'll mostly be in the Kalahari this trip. :)

I've heard Swakopmund is really nice. Absolutely spend some time in Etosha and take a nice camera setup. The Caprivi is a special place. Take some boots that can get wet and don't neglect the malaria meds.

17 days of hunting sounds great. I think we have 8 this time. PG only, but I'm introducing some folks to Africa for their first trip outside of North America. That's always lots of fun.

Windhoek is surprisingly cool for such a small city. Have a great time.

We're on the direct from Frankfurt to Windhoek and it gets in pretty early in the morning local time. No overnight in JNB for us this trip.

We are flying via Jo'burg to Windhoek then up to Katima Mulilo in June with rifles (for buff in Caprivi) so any tips you learn would be appreciated. Hope you have a great trip

Hi - the only (best) method of sending you the .375/06IMP data is with photographing my book notes. My camera died so the only way I can do it is with my phone. To do that, I would need your e-mail address, as this
new Android phone is too complicated to upload to my desk computer, which would be easier and to down-grade, reduce the file sizes.
Best wishes

Hey Steve, This is Steve Washington we met at KMG last year. I am interested in your Winchester. Would love to speak with you about it. I work third shift and I cannot take a phone with me to work. Let me know a good time to call during one of your mornings. My phone is [redacted]. Live in Florida so I have to account for the time difference.
Look forward to hearing from you.

Good day, Slider.

Do you by any chance have any 500NE brass left that you are willing to part ways with?

Best regards,
Boela Bekker.
