Online Gun Auction Etiquette
I’m sure I will get flamed for this and that’s fine. Instead of just beating around the bush, I’ll just clearly state my 2 cents. You’re welcome to bash me I’m a big boy. Lol
I have to wonder if folks truly understand how GB online auction works? It’s a hybrid, with some guns listed for sale at a fixed price and/or a buy now. These I have no problem sharing information on. They are not auctions. Then there are guns listed for auction with a set number of days.
I’ve always had my online auction guns listed for 14 days starting at a penny bid with GB. Having listed 40 guns through a broker on GB over the past couple of years, I would have loved to have brought them to the attention of my fellow AH brethren, but because they are actual auction items I did not. Certainly as a seller, the more attention I can bring the better, but not to the interested bidder.
Also, it’s an auction with many days left, there is no such thing as a good deal on an active auction, the bid can sky rocket the last 15 minutes and has many times or a bidding war can take place and this particular gun action site literally has millions of eyes watching at all times. Anyone who thinks an online GB auction gun with a current low bid may be a good deal is delusional or sadly misinformed. Many potential bidders are just waiting, all have different tactics or methods.
Those who have no issue sharing information on an actual online auction, an ACTUAL AUCTION, NOT A SALE, NOT A BUY NOW, either have never bid in an online auction, don’t know the difference between a buy now or gun for sale at a set price and an actual auction or are just uninformed and inexperienced with auctions.
If you are an experienced online gun auction bidder and you have no problem with the auction and gun being shared, then you are an extremely rare individual who must enjoy paying the very highest price or top dollar on every online gun auction you bid on. You probably jump for joy when others bid jacking up the price so you can pay the highest amount possible.
I’m being facetious obviously because this individual doesn’t exist.
These is not one experienced bidder I know who bids on online gun auctions who wants this information disseminated. When this information is shared, I’m certain they are silently cursing the person who shared it 7 days from Sunday. The bidder is hopeful they may get lucky and less attention increases the odds of maybe getting lucky and winning the bid at a lower price.
I’m certain any experienced bidder knows what it’s like to see a new bidder bid at the last minute jacking the price up 1000’s or starting a bidding war. No experienced bidder wants the auction shared, ever, period. Folks may privately share the info with a friend but not publicly.
Again, I have zero problem with passing on information on buy now or a fixed price for sale, these are not auctions even if on the auction site in question. In fact I have passed on some exceptional deals and the favor has been returned.
I will close with this:
If you are passing on information on an active auction, you are not helping, you are actually pissing people off. I’m certain an AH member is bidding on this 505 Gibbs and are not happy with all the attention it’s getting, just more opportunity for someone do discover and join in on the bidding. The goal is after all to win a bid with the least amount of money expended and once in awhile we get lucky, the stars align just right and we win the bid with an exceptionally low price.
Actually, I usually just ignore commenting on a shared gun online GB auction because I’m just bringing more attention to it.
