Good Gun Deals This Week

I learned a valuable lesson about posting a link to a rifle and asking a question. It was on the way to a forum member before the first response.

Oh well, live and learn
Post a link if you think it’s good just because someone is sour because they had already bid on it doesn’t make it a bad deal. People need to understand there is a difference between having put a bid on an item and it being yours.

There’s 100% a difference but there’s also a difference between loosing to someone who spent the time to search for something because they wanted it and because someone was alerted via an Internet forum and swooped in without doing any of the leg work. There’s a value proposition associated with time. This is the exact reason most forums don’t allow posting of live auctions.

It wasnt an auction.

It’s not yours till the deal is done and the auction is over. That is the basic premise of an auction.

Online Gun Auction Etiquette

I’m sure I will get flamed for this and that’s fine. Instead of just beating around the bush, I’ll just clearly state my 2 cents. You’re welcome to bash me I’m a big boy. Lol

I have to wonder if folks truly understand how GB online auction works? It’s a hybrid, with some guns listed for sale at a fixed price and/or a buy now. These I have no problem sharing information on. They are not auctions. Then there are guns listed for auction with a set number of days.

I’ve always had my online auction guns listed for 14 days starting at a penny bid with GB. Having listed 40 guns through a broker on GB over the past couple of years, I would have loved to have brought them to the attention of my fellow AH brethren, but because they are actual auction items I did not. Certainly as a seller, the more attention I can bring the better, but not to the interested bidder.

Also, it’s an auction with many days left, there is no such thing as a good deal on an active auction, the bid can sky rocket the last 15 minutes and has many times or a bidding war can take place and this particular gun action site literally has millions of eyes watching at all times. Anyone who thinks an online GB auction gun with a current low bid may be a good deal is delusional or sadly misinformed. Many potential bidders are just waiting, all have different tactics or methods.

Those who have no issue sharing information on an actual online auction, an ACTUAL AUCTION, NOT A SALE, NOT A BUY NOW, either have never bid in an online auction, don’t know the difference between a buy now or gun for sale at a set price and an actual auction or are just uninformed and inexperienced with auctions.

If you are an experienced online gun auction bidder and you have no problem with the auction and gun being shared, then you are an extremely rare individual who must enjoy paying the very highest price or top dollar on every online gun auction you bid on. You probably jump for joy when others bid jacking up the price so you can pay the highest amount possible.

I’m being facetious obviously because this individual doesn’t exist.

These is not one experienced bidder I know who bids on online gun auctions who wants this information disseminated. When this information is shared, I’m certain they are silently cursing the person who shared it 7 days from Sunday. The bidder is hopeful they may get lucky and less attention increases the odds of maybe getting lucky and winning the bid at a lower price.

I’m certain any experienced bidder knows what it’s like to see a new bidder bid at the last minute jacking the price up 1000’s or starting a bidding war. No experienced bidder wants the auction shared, ever, period. Folks may privately share the info with a friend but not publicly.

Again, I have zero problem with passing on information on buy now or a fixed price for sale, these are not auctions even if on the auction site in question. In fact I have passed on some exceptional deals and the favor has been returned.

I will close with this:

If you are passing on information on an active auction, you are not helping, you are actually pissing people off. I’m certain an AH member is bidding on this 505 Gibbs and are not happy with all the attention it’s getting, just more opportunity for someone do discover and join in on the bidding. The goal is after all to win a bid with the least amount of money expended and once in awhile we get lucky, the stars align just right and we win the bid with an exceptionally low price.

Actually, I usually just ignore commenting on a shared gun online GB auction because I’m just bringing more attention to it.

Id arguenthebpurpose of sharing the info is hey..... found this if anyones interested.

If I was super set on getting something might not share it.
But if I did and someone scooped it up. O well.

People seem to take things too personally these days. Like its feelings people will get over them

Another thing to note, the purpose of this thread is to post good deals for others to be aware of, not to price check something you’re interested in.

If you DO want to price check something, start a new thread for opinions, and the majority of the member base will be gentlemanly about it and leave it for you.

It’s not yours till the deal is done and the auction is over. That is the basic premise of an auction.
I’m not arguing that at all and never have. Not sure how/why I or someone else has given that impression.

Not posting live auction links (without a buy it now) is a very common and normal rule on most hunting/gun forums. This is based around the idea of respect for other forums and non-forum members watching, following or bidding on the auction. The premise being if someone is interested they should be searching themselves out of respect to the time/value proposition of others who might be spending their time searching/looking.

Saw this Marcel Thys & Sons double in 500NE on Gunbroker this week. I might be wrong but looks like if you would be able to invest a bit into it to fix it up it could be a good grab. I don't know where to start to get something like this thing fixed but could be worth the investment for someone who does.

Absolutely worthless, unfortunately. It would cost probably ten grand to make a lock for it, another five grand to engrave it, another two grand to strip the case colors and reapply them. In the end, you'd have spent 2-3 years on the project and you'd end up with a rife worth what you put in it, not counting the purchase price.

Haha, many times I have bid, fingers crossed watching the countdown on a very desirable gun to me, only 15 minutes left, is it possible I may win the bid? Wow, and a great price too! Then it all comes crashing down! Last minute bidder! Bidding war ensues, now no longer worth it and I drop out, bastard! Unfortunately a not uncommon occurrence!

I don’t even need to post it for others to see. Some years I learned not to drink and gunbroker when I bid against myself and won.

Last minute snipping is very common. It’s unfortunately part of the auction game but it because MUCH more common when the item is broadcast on a public forum.

Pay attention to the forum members online and guests viewing and it’ll really open your eyes.

Jerome, do you think my last post in rough camping must maybe shift as an article?
