Per the recommendations of this forum, I and my brother in law went to DSC this year to find an outfitter for a trip next year to Africa. Well to say it was overwhelming is a bit of a understatement. This will be my first trip. The goal was to talk to outfitters and pick who we will go with. Danged if that was a hard thing to do. We met with several that seamed on par with our wants. Free range was at the top of our list, we learned a lot and was able to narrow down at least the country that would fit our requirements. We attended Saturday and Sunday and learned real fast that we should have planned for Friday too......................what can I say, noobs! We have not secured our outfitter between work and life but we need to get this done soon. We have picked a few outfitters that we plan to send a detailed email to and then narrow it down from there. I have a few I would like to put up here for everyone to comment on. I hope this will be ok. I'm looking for the good the bad and the ugly here. Your help will be very appreciated. This is for plains game.

There are a few more I can not remember the name of off the top of my head, there seam to be several good ones out there which is why this is difficult. Thank you

JKO WILL TAKE GOOD CARE OF YOU. WE'VE BEEN ON TWO GREAT HUNTS WITH THEM.

Going to the Big shows and meeting outfitters face to face is a great experience isn't it? The rifles, the Taxidermy, the friendly PH that you have dreams of hunting with all make it worth the trip.

There are different Countries and areas within each Country that are better than others. There are places that are great for the Big 5 (Dangerous Game), but aren't quite so good for Plains Game and vice versa.

Hang around this forum for a few months and you'll be glad you did. Lots of knowledge and experience from people that have hunted with almost any PH you can name.

Best if luck on whatever you choose.

PHs, guides, and outfitters don't stay in the business without consistently offering great services. I doubt you'd go wrong with any of them, however, my experience is with KMG and I highly recommend Marius.

Your list covers a couple different regions of South Africa. What type of hunt do you want? What species do you want? I think eastern cape gives the better hunting experience. I’d choose KMG for kudu and bushbuck and few others.

Glad to hear you had a good time in Atlanta. If you have any further questions about JKO, I'm here in the Phoenix, AZ area and my contact information is in my signature below.

Glad yall had fun! I always enjoyed that show when it was in Texas. You are doing the right thing to come on here and sort you hunt planning out! A brother safari sounds special.

If “free range is at the top of our list” like you state. then you should find some more outfitters that meet that requirement. You list is mostly just fenced hunting in SA.
(Some exceptions on your list, yes)

The list is also bit confusing, as Pierre Von Tonder sells hunts in the selous of TZ and the rest of the list is basically just SA outfitters.
Two very different safaris in terms of, well everything!

Too funny…I told you to stay away from the Rigby tent!!! LOL!!!!! Also I believe you have a lion hunt booked with your new Rigby?

Thank you gentlemen for your response
Von tonder is the wild card

From your list:

KMG is excellent, first plains game Safari back in 2017! The once in a lifetime hunt…Africa bug hit hard! I need to get another hunt booked with Marius in the future.

Pierre Van Tonder - Booked with them @ DSC as soon as the doors opened Friday morning but the Wife and I are headed to TZ in October (hopefully for Buff #8 and 9) so no first hand experience with them in South Africa or Namibia. Communication with them post DSC “booking” has been excellent.

If you have any questions on hunting Africa, drop me a DM!

What country and what animals are you interested in? Many of us have been many times and can give real insight on both countries and not only the outfitter but the guides he uses.

Thank you, kudu are top of the list, nyala bushbuck, blue wildebeest impala blesbuck. I think that little bushbuck makes a stunning mount. I’m not a wealthy man but I do alright first trip for plains game then next time I have a real drive to hunt a leopard!

Hi - the only (best) method of sending you the .375/06IMP data is with photographing my book notes. My camera died so the only way I can do it is with my phone. To do that, I would need your e-mail address, as this
new Android phone is too complicated to upload to my desk computer, which would be easier and to down-grade, reduce the file sizes.
Best wishes

Hey Steve, This is Steve Washington we met at KMG last year. I am interested in your Winchester. Would love to speak with you about it. I work third shift and I cannot take a phone with me to work. Let me know a good time to call during one of your mornings. My phone is [redacted]. Live in Florida so I have to account for the time difference.
Look forward to hearing from you.

Good day, Slider.

Do you by any chance have any 500NE brass left that you are willing to part ways with?

Best regards,
Boela Bekker.
