That is a bummer about the CCH, which I do particularly like on many rifles, but for the engraving you selected, especially with the animal, the photos you posted back in July saying you elected to nix the CCH made total sense. It is a real bummer that you got charged extra for case colors you had decided against, especially once pounds turn to US dollars, and all the tariff, taxes, and that Cali hits you with a second excise tax. I mean, 10k pounds can turn into a $18k-ish USD expense real quick.Jerome reached out to me. He will resolve it next time I go to France. After my hunt in Namibia in September.
I thought it would be done in gold with outlines? No, idea. I just contacted Jerome and it is 8PM there.
No extra charge for case colors. Originally it was part of the build. The amount I mentioned was for the engraving. The elephant and scrolling at border. It is a real bummer that you got charged extra for case colors you had decided against
@Tanks with respect, I'm not 100% sure from the photo that the CCH is the only culprit. I'm struggling to make out the edge of the ears, and the top of the forehead, and the outer edge of the L tusk in this photo. Could it be a function of the depth or sharpness of the engraving? Did it look different to you when it was in the white? One thing I am NOT happy about is the engraving. Here it is, can hardly see it due to color case hardening, IT WAS NOT SUPPOSED TO BE DONE. Waste of 10,000 pounds.

Did he make any comment as to how the mistake was made?Jerome reached out to me. He will resolve it next time I go to France. After my hunt in Namibia in September.

oh dear..........
You can remove the coloring for case haredening without removing the hardening. You can either buff it off which I assume they won’t do because it will effect the engraving. Or use a variety of chemical strippers. Some best gun makers used to do this to quite a few of their guns when they wanted the hardening effect but case colors weren’t in fashion.@Tanks with respect, I'm not 100% sure from the photo that the CCH is the only culprit. I know that lighting and cell phone photos sometimes don't really capture the detail, especially with specular highlights like you get on metal surfaces. Does it look more clear in real life?
I'm glad to hear that they're going to work with you to resolve it, and I'll be curious to hear exactly how they do that...... I'm assuming the CCH can't be reversed, and to my knowledge I don't think they can do more engraving work after CCH has been done. So I'll be fascinated to see what they come up with.
OK. The rifle has arrived at my FFL. Did the CA registration and I should be able to have it in my hands on 9th of March at 10:30AM. I tested shouldering the gun from the port arms position a few times. Every time the sights were perfectly aligned.
No swag though.
Included in the plastic case were the regulation targets.

Very happy with regulation.

Case colors are now widely seen as a decorative item. In the early days they were just a byproduct of the hardening process. Once it was realized people liked them various craftsman figured out ways to create different color combinations. The color is self is very thin and often wears off of guns through handling and use. These processes just speed that up.I had no idea this was possible.
I must have missed the post regarding a “solution”?? Agreeing to “resolve” at a future date is hardly a solution…,I’m glad The Team was able to find a solution for you promptly. Please don’t ever hesitate to reach out directly if you have any further questions or concerns.

This will be an interesting case study of how a powerful high-end manufacture deals with
a well known, well liked, respected customer - all for the AH community to witness.
Marc Newton, the managing director of Rigby, has reached out to me as well. So, there is a plan to get it resolved. I was told they CCH every gun and then remove the colors if client wishes for gray, so this should be a two-day chemical process when I bring the gun to them on my next trip over there.I must have missed the post regarding a “solution”?? BTW, I just sent them a deposit on a London Best LH bolt Mannlicher style gun, so still doing business with them.
Thank you Tanks!! Personally, I like it!! Just was curious as to resolution with the customer.
