Funding a Safari with Facebook Marketplace

Yes it does work - I keep an eye on gun auctions in Europe (antique guns )- and beyond - dont buy much but what I do buy are screamers! Takes time - but I use those lazy minuites of the day for this - better than doom scrolling !

My question is how you keep yourself from going postal on all the lowballer dipsticks and wannabe scammers.

if they annoy you dont get involved !

So your graphic says that if you earn $14,5k you get buffalo and kudu AND everything else below that, or just buffalo and kudu?

Nice graphic. Did you use AI for that?

Just the two. Tbh, it will be my dad’s 60th birthday and his first trip to Africa, so I’ll probably buy him an animal (waterbuck or kudu or something).

And no, I probably should have, but I make a ton of reports in PowerPoint for work, so I made it there.

Been a crazy month with tons of weird stuff found, but I still have more to sell, including a commercial kitchen mixer, a 1969 Barbie in the box, a mini bike, and a clay pigeon thrower (I might just have to keep the last one).

Man. I head out in two months for South Africa with @mdwest -- time to get after my own projects! Inspiring.

I sell a ton of stuff on Marketplace --- it can be a good gig as long as you know how to source product for cheap. I fund lots of toys that way. That said, if you don't have a dedicated source of products 9k is a tough number IMHO. A couple tips to help succeed though:

1. Always list 10-20% higher than you want. You'll be surprised at how many people will pay over your ask, and for those that want to haggle you can let them get down to your target number.
2. If you sell something, wait a week and then delete it. The facebook algorithm seems to give the rest of your listings a pop after you clean house (maybe because it shows you're active?) so that helps move things.
3. Remember that your gas is worth something. If it's a small item make the people come to you. If it's a large thing factor in gas and then quote a radius you'll meet up in. Same applies to time.
4. My standard disclaimer on listings is "no cash, first come first served, and not looking for trades. Meet up is at _____ (address here)." And then when the inevitable questions about those things come, I say "that information is posted in the ad" because if they can't read it I don't want them bugging me.
5. If it has a serial number, take a picture of that and hold it for a few weeks just in case.
6. FB uses AI to screen against bad things like "knives", "guns" and anything of the sort, and they will delete your profile if you get enough strikes against you.
7. I don't have a personal FB, I just made one exclusively for Marketplace. If you do that to keep things separate then know you're limited in listings for a while.
8. Always leave feedback and it's okay to request that. More feedback means more visibility.
9. If you want to ignore point 1 and list 30-40% high for a week before getting down to business do that and then drop to the 20% level. Then FB will show you reduced it. Marketplace people do a sharks in the water thing where they often seem to see that and think "well he has to get rid of it, let me go for it and ask for another couple bucks off". End result is you still come out ahead of what you wanted.

Indeed we needs to know - inspired me !

Mind if I ask why no cash? I would think that would be preferred.

I tried something similar back when back page was a thing, tried selling my ex wife in the personals section but she just kept giving it away. Ended up having to pay for my safari with my yob!
Seriously, awesome job, get that buffalo!

Hey Steve, This is Steve Washington we met at KMG last year. I am interested in your Winchester. Would love to speak with you about it. I work third shift and I cannot take a phone with me to work. Let me know a good time to call during one of your mornings. My phone is 239 565-8988. Live in Florida so I have to account for the time difference.
Look forward to hearing from you.

Good day, Slider.

Do you by any chance have any 500NE brass left that you are willing to part ways with?

Best regards,
Boela Bekker.
