I recently traded for an MRC Safari Elite in 404j. I had no intention of keeping the gun but when I actually received it, I liked the feel of it. It came with a Vortex scope that I intended to remove/replace. However, as I attempted to removed it, I discovered that two base screws had been tightened to the point of breaking off in the receiver. I am seeking a recommendation for a quality US gunsmith who could correct this issue for me.

This rifle also has an off color receiver and extensive gold engraving which I don't care for so I would also be interested in having the action blued to match the barrel.

I'm sure it sounds like a mess but I like the gun. Input is appreciated.

Are the screw heads broken off or are they just very tight? These screws are often installed with "Loctite." If that is the case, applying a little heat will allow you to remove the screws. I've seen the name of Dennis Olsen mentioned as being a top-quality gunsmith.

Two are snapped off and were in that condition as soon as I removed the top half of the rings and the scope. I will check out Dennis Olsen. Thank you!

What size are the screws? It is possible to drill out the broken screws and tap to a larger size. That is probably the easiest and cheapest option.

Thank you! I have found a guy to do just that.

Hi PaulB. Would you be interested in another WJ Jeffery .450/.400 NE 3". It's an extractor model and in superb condition, cased as well. Made in 1908. The rifle is here in Texas.

I will take the knife for $250 shipped. Please tell me how you would like the payment.

Thanks-
