Wow...my MRC in 404 Jeffery had a problem of when I would fire it, I could easily lift the bolt but could not immediately withdraw the bolt, it took about 10-15 seconds before it would release...like a vaccum lock was the best way to describe it. I sent it to one gunsmith, and he could not fix it. You people recommended I send it to Tipton Burns in TX and he did the following:
1. Polished the inside.
2. Found where the scope was mounted locktite was causing a problem and he removed it.

He did all of this within 2 weeks even with the holidays!!!!!

He sent me a video of him shooting it and easily extracting the bolt like all of us would expect.

Well done Tipton....for bolt action rifles you are my go to guy!!!!!

Very strange. So the scope holes were tapped all the way through the receiver and loktite dripped out the bottom into the locking lug chamber? How did he dig it out of there? Heat? Montana Rifle Company quality control has sure gone in the toilet under new ownership. Only to be surpassed by their terrible support. A shame. The Sipes worked very hard to build a reputable name for that outfit.
 
No there was no hole in the bore, it had just somehow gotten on the bolt and was just enough to cause a problem. To be clear no hole in the bore just clumsiness working around loctite in a work site with the bolt. Great catch on Tipton’s part!!!
 
Had the same issue with a Heym Martini.... sold it.

To be clear, holes drilled for a scope mount on Montana Rifle bolt action would never have been drilled in the "bore." They would be drilled in the locking ring which is not even in the chamber, let alone far enough forward to be into the bore. Even if the hole was inadvertantly drilled through the locking ring, and this is not uncommon, it would not compromise the strength of the action or the gun's accuracy. But it would certainly explain how loktite got smeared around in the locking lug zone. I would have thought that blue or red loktite on the bolt lugs would have been a clear indication to anyone that something was amiss. Hardly rocket science.

I guess the million dollar question is who put the scope bases on your rifle? Someone at a gunstore or a local "shade tree" gunsmith?

He did some modifications to my CZ 550. It fits me like a glove, and it feeds flawlessly. My normal gunsmith was highly impressed with his work. I would recommend him to anyone!

I bought a rifle from Tip years ago. Great guy and gunsmith.

Just wanted to clarify on the loctite/whatever it was on the bolt. It was on the rear of the bolt just forward of the handle. Looks like some of the stuff went through the scope mount hole and ended up on the bolt body. I scraped it off and cleaned it up and cleaned the chamber for good measure and it’s working fine.

Not a genius by any stretch of the imagination but I did stay at a Holiday Inn once. lol
 
Tip does all my work (well, I still give Mark Bansner some work from time to time. :-). ) and is awesome. A true treasure in the gunsmith world!

Man, I didn’t even know you were on here. :)

Seriously—genius! To others, Tip has worked on a ton of my rifles. I have a .257 STW he built and it is a true 1/4 MOA rifle. He has worked on my rifles from .22 to .700 and all work is flawless.

i,ve had a few run in,s with miss placed lock tight, seems some think if a little will do, more would be better.

Here we are, the last day of the show in Denver, it's been a good show but expecting a quiet day today. I will be back for-sure to do this show next year and maybe also do the one in Sacramento California.

On Monday I will be hitting the road driving from Denver and eventually make it down to Atlanta for the flight home.

I have made it to Atlanta this morning, few other outfitters on same flight and our luggage never came trough, looks like mine will go via France to Denver hope it gets there before the ISE show starts on the 8th TOMORROW!
