6.5x55 sweed

I have been a fan of the Swede for 40+ years... I currently run two Rugers... an M77 Mark II and a No.1-A;

I hesitate to show my m34 Swede I picked up for $85.00. It hadn't been shot much at all as in cosmoline when the original owner bought it. A bunch that were never issued. He "sporterized it" & shot one moose with it, with a factory 156gr. Norma round. Before shooting it, I will restock it.
My other Swede is a Varberger. 2 other .264's I have are a 'custom' .260 Rem. I cobbeled together and a Mauser 6.5x57, shown that I picked up a year ago, but havne't hunted with yet. It seems to like 120gr. TTSX at 2,860fps.

My pistol and rifle barrel for my Encore both love Georgia Arms 120gr BT at 2850fps. But they have not made any in a long time. They say they cant get components. I think they are full of it. No one else that loads the Swede has problems finding components.

I recently got a 6.5 swede in a ruger m77 rsi manlicher, love the rifle. I dont handload, where can i get the european hotter SE ammo, headed to Africa for antelope in the fall.

Norma makes both 139gr. spitzer bullets as well as 156gr. Rounded FN's.
Both should be loaded to the standard CIP(Euro) laws of 55,000PSI for this ctg.

Norma, Hornady, nosler, lapua, swift, hsm, all make what I call normal loads, but are considered hotter here in the states. Go to Midway Usa. They have lots of Swede loads. I would highly recommend Georgia Arms , but as i said in earlier post, They dont have any because they claim they cant get components. Really, Then how are all these other companies making Swede loads?????

I will keep looking for them, thanks

Interesting. SAAMI standards & CIP laws are quite different in maximum pressure allowable. In the USA, SAAMI is a suggestion, while in Europe, CIP is law. Higher working pressure, greater ballistics.
Just looked them up.
Maximum pressure (C.I.P.)380.0 MPa (55,110 psi)
Maximum pressure (SAAMI)351.6 MPa (51,000 psi)

My other Swede is a Varberger.
Last time I saw a Varberger rifle was in 2011 in 35 Whelen cal, are they still producing rifles?

I dont know the answere to that question. I bought mine from Tradeexcanada which has changed hands to Intersurplus.com. A year ago, i bought a Mauser, DS triggers, Swarovski in claw mounts, 6.5x57 from them.

There's something rugged and nostalgic about that caliber; long history with phenomenal success. Your choice of the Lothar Walther barrel was very smart. Excellent barrels.

I was quite surprised with it's accuracy with the 120gr. TTSX bullets and Re#17. Only running them at 2,850fps, almost exactly the same velocity quoted by Nosler for that load for the 6.5x55 from their Manual for their mono bullet.

An excellent AH member right here! I had a fantastic transaction with Hornedfrogbbq (I was the seller). His communication was first rate, payment was extremely fast, and I would have absolutely no reservations at all dealing with him again. Thank you, F!
Here we are, the last day of the show in Denver, it's been a good show but expecting a quiet day today. I will be back for-sure to do this show next year and maybe also do the one in Sacramento California.

On Monday I will be hitting the road driving from Denver and eventually make it down to Atlanta for the flight home.

its going to be a good year!

Hi Rem280, Saw your post on getting selected for Idaho Elk. Do you have a zone(s) selected? I live in N Idaho, might be able to offer some ideas.

Cheers,

Craig
