I'm starting this thread not knowing if any of this has been covered before. If so, forgive the redundancy.

Tip#1: The site only gives a limited amount of time to edit posts after they are posted (a half hour?). This is to prevent people from being abusive and then making the abuse disappear before a moderator can view it. However, it is frustrating to go back over a post I've made and see a mistake in grammar or spelling, etc that I can't fix. What I write and the way I write is a reflection on me. I may be cranky and opinionated but I am not sloppy. So, what can I do? When composing a post, you will note a box in upper right hand of the window with a page symbol and magnifying glass.

Hit that button and you will see a draft of the entire post, complete with images inserted. This is to preview before posting. If you see something that needs fixing, you'll need to click that icon again to escape back to editing function. No time limit. When it reverts to editing window, the cursor will be where you left off before the preview. Scroll to the place in text that needs editing. When finished and satisfied all is satisfactory, hit the post button.

Tip#2: Posting images

I find it is best to insert images into the text where relevant to the context. Place the cursor at that point, hit return twice to insert a blank line, move cursor up to the blank line, then hit "Attach files." Then the program will ask if you want to use your phone's camera to take a photo to insert or get one from a file on the computer/phone. I usually use photos I've already taken which are stored in the "Gallery" file on my phone. A blurry "thumbnail" of the image then shows up at the bottom of the post asking if you want to insert the full image or thumbnail. I ALWAYS choose full image. Otherwise anyone reading the text who wants to see the image must click on the blurry thumbnail and wait for a special viewing gallery to open. This can take quite a while. I usually give up and just vacate any post/thread with thumbnails attached. When inserting an image into text, you will often only see a linking line of text at that point. Go to preview (see tip #1) to see what the post really looks like with image inserted.

Thanks for posting a tutorial. Many of us that have been here for a while are doing that automatically without consciously going through the steps, so it's good to have that refresher. The other tip to use is to type a post or response, then wait an hour or so to post. Makes a person read it "fresh" to see how it will read to someone else and for me at least, keeps emotional responses to a minimum.

Good point. One can go view another thread while the unposted post is incubating. But upon returning to the thread with the incubator via the back button ("<") the incubating unposted post won't be there. Not to worry. Hit the refresh button at top of the page and the unposted post reappears again ready to be edited or posted.

Excellent post!

I will add tip #2.1 regarding photos:

When starting a new report, be sure to include a really good photo in your first post. This will become the cover photo for your report. If you don’t include a photo in the first post, the cover photo is the generic yellow and black AH logo.

So, what can I do?
Typo:
I hate my typing mistakes. But I have good excuse: I am European, English is not my first language. So, I am excused!
;)

However: there is a tool for this. Type in google: "Gramarly". Then follow, and install free app, to correct your typing mistakes. Free ware.
It works automatically on every platform you use, MS office, forums, outlook, etc.

Choose best photo for first post:
When making a hunting report - follow above advice by @375 Ruger Fan
Choose the best photo.
It will be seen as preview of your post.

How to make photo:
Use gold cut technique. This basically means: divide composition of the photo in ratio roughly 2/3 : 1/3.
This division can be diagonal, vertical, or horizontal. It is pleasant for the eye. This is basic technique used for designing calling cards, calendars, brochures etc... The border between two parts of photo can be horizon, land mass, hill, wood, forest road, etc...
For better understanding, google: "Gold cut technique".
I used this method on below photo. Horizon on cca of 60% of the composition, horizontal.

Good post. I don't agree with @Ontario Hunter 's opinion as to why you can only edit a post for 30 mins. The real reason is to prevent fraud. If I run a classified and say its for 10 guns and a free ferrari, I can't go back and edit it later on and say it was for 1 gun and a ford pinto. It prevents bait and switch.

A big problem with allowing posters to edit post is when they add to or remove information from their post. Just about all forums that I am on that don't have a time limit on editing end up a mess when posters add or delete information.

Great thread to assist fellow members.

30 Minutes Limit: allows some time to catch your own screw ups and change them.
It provides ongoing continuity for the forum, and keeps threads from being an absolute mess. It also certainly prevents bait and switch, etc.

Keep it going...

1. Photos, on the computer.
Drag and drop into the post where you'd like them placed.
Watch the size of the file.
You do not need a 20MB photo in your thread.

Interesting. Not sure I even knew there was profile post function.

Personally I think the inabilty to go back and edit is a fairly significant issue.

I just made a post that only downloaded one picture out of five with the text. I tried literally a dozen times to add the pics and even though they showed 100% they wouldn't load and then it timed out. Post is pointless without pics and theres no way to fix it. :(

I also cant go back on my sale thread and edit the price downward if its languishing, or change the title to show that its now sold. People will have to load the thread and then scroll clear to the bottom to discover it sold days ago.

Very frustrating.....

@jcs271 I just sent you a PM on the subject.

thanks for your reply bob , is it feasible to build a 444 on a P14/M17 , or is the no4 enfield easier to build? i know where i can buy a lothar walther barrel in 44, 1-38 twist , but i think with a barrel crown of .650" the profile is too light .
