For Sale- LH Winchester Model 70 Safari Express - 458 Lott plus some unobtanium.

I’m told when I bought it that this was converted from 375 H&H to 458 Lott by JJ Perodeau at Champlin arms in Enid Ok.

$5500 gets you everything listed below face to face in Texas. Plus shipping elsewhere.Im not particularly interested in breaking up the package.

It will come with the original wood stock and the new Bansner stock that its now bedded into. Both are included. The original factory length stock LOP was too short for me so the Bansner stock was custom ordered at 15” LOP. This makes it much more shooter friendly.
It’s got a Leupold VX6 1-6 x24 scope and has Talley Rings and bases.
It will come with New Redding Dies.
3 boxes of once fired Hornady brass.
4 boxes of 450 grain Swift A- Frame bullets.
1 box of Swift 500 grain breakaway solid bullets.
1 full box of 500 grain Swift A frame Ammo.
1 partial box of 500 grain Swift A-Frame ammo(12 loaded, 8 shot).
1 box of 458 Win Mag 500 grain Swift Breakaway Solids (19 loaded 1 shot).

Can you post a picture of the other stock as well?

Mark Bansner did an excellent job stocking my LH M70 in 308 Norma Mag. He was not cheap, but I am picky and I am satisfied. This sounds like a good DG rifle to me...

Nice rig. I was looking for a LH .458 Lott 2 years ago and this looks great. Length of the barrel? Have you shot it and can you account for accuracy with this scope?

The Barrel is 24” or 23.5 from where the barrel meets the action+ 1/2” of threads.

I have shot sub MOA Groups with it. But I’d need more magnification and courage to prove it. I shoot about a 1” group at 50 yards. It’s not for the faint of heart.

I will guarantee that it shoots MOB. (Minute of Buffalo)

It seems there is always a lefty (like myself sometimes) looking for a proper safari rifle and then when one pops up seemingly like every 1.5-2 years, it takes a long time to sell. This listed the day after I sent funds for a similar mod 70 LH but in 458 win mag instead of Lott. I will think about Lotting when I get it. There will probably come a day as I age where I will go back down from bigger bores to the 458 to hunt. What timing!
This is a bit of a rant I suppose so ttt and good luck with sale!

Just a heads up, I’m going off continent for a couple weeks so I may not reply until mid August.

Would consider partial trades.

What is the weight of the rifle as is with scope and custom stock?
I am guessing that if feeds smoothly, no binding, or other issues.

9 lb 0 oz according to my kitchen scale. No feeding Issues of which I am aware. Although I have shot very few rounds through it.

I could also swap out this scope and rings with a Trijicon SRO with the bases needed to mount it on a model 70.

Here's a photo of Tony receiving that Shaw & Hunter award at the 1970 annual EAPHA Dinner Dance. Tony Dyer, then EAPHA President and Princess (Sunny) von Auersperg presented it. I also attended the event.

Good Afternoon,
How firm are you on your Dakota 416? I am highly interested but looking at a few different guns currently.

Best,
BJ
