Antique British gun case restoration project

In the near future, I plan to make a new one from scratch, but always for shotgun or express... A rifle one will be too big and bulky. I prefer a leather slip case fir rifles

Antique British gun case restoration project

Hello Jay very nice project, congratulations. I am also working on restoring a 1900 double gun case. Sorry to ask If it has been already answered, but I cant find it: The leather patches, corners, and edge straps, did you sew the leather and glue it to the case, or did you glue the leather...

No one else has a double rifle with straight stock that can share a photo? Also a photo from a book is welcome

Double rifle express with shotgun style stock

Thanks for sharing that beautiful Purdey. BTW, it is strange, that is a Purdey, and no engraving? Looks like it is a "less is more" rifle, only best hardware, no engravings... Also it has no recoil pad. I have discussions because I like guns with no pad, both express and shotguns, plain wood...

Double rifle express with shotgun style stock

Hello I have always seen express rifles with pistol grip, no matter what the caliber was.... But I have felt in love with the lines and beauty of an express with no pistol grip, and a plain shotgun style stock. I am sure most will say pistol grip is necessary for the hand not to move after...

Searching for an original Rigby sling photo

Searching for an original Rigby sling photo

I have seen many big caliber Rigby rifles, with a fixed dome sling attachment in the rear wood, instead of the typical swivel attachment. I am not sure if this was standard or an accessory But surely I have only seen it in Rirby rifles. Maybe one has an original leather sling and can...

Where to buy in Europe, 2 or 3 leave express sights

Yes, that was the plan B I had in mind.... I have a milling machine, so it should not be a problem.

Using stock pad on double rifles

Ken, what is a silver pad? I am not familiar with the name. Maybe the metal protection some stocks have so the wood is not damaged will resting? I have seen many H&H shot guns form the early days with no pad, just a very nice checkering. Shotguns will certainly shoot many many more times than a...

Using stock pad on double rifles

Yes, that is a good solution!

Using stock pad on double rifles

I love plain stocks with the original checkering. A solution is to use those rubber pads than can be installed and removed as they are press fitted with rubber.

Using stock pad on double rifles

Today, all modern guns will have rear pad in the stock to reduce recoil and make it more comfortable. But from what I see on old catalogues, rifles used to have a pad, but double rifles didn’t. For example I have in front of me the Holland catalogue from 1910, where rifles would have pads, but...
