Is there any difference between open and closed cell foam backer rod for filler? Also the one I have purchased came in a purple bag from Lowe's and it doesn't state if it is open or closed, however it says in several places to keep away from heat or open flame. I was curious so I hit the end of a piece for just a second with my kitchen torch and it very quickly melted and rolled up. I am just getting into loading for the high volume cases and using filler so I want to make sure I get this right. I do not want foam melted to the inside of.my barrel. Can someone post a pic of the particular rod they use? Would I be better off using the Dacron pillow stuffing?

I believe I saw someone had posted on the forum some research that was done with different filler materials where dacron was shown to cause significant pressure spike. Don't quote me on that. I'll try to find it and post a link for you. As to the open/close cell question I have no idea but I am curious to hear from the more experienced.

Edit: Found the link, hope this helps. Post #13 has the data set I was referring to.

I read that about the Dacron, it was on here but I can't remember who posted it. I will probably stick with the foam backer rod. After thinking it through a little more, there isn't really any open flame inside the barrel when the round goes off. I still would liken to double check with some of the guys on here with a lot of experience in this department. I do not want to ruin a rifle.
