Just putting this out there for discussion at this time, I have a mauser 98k in 8mm that I picked up years ago, I have been kicking around the idea of converting it to a 9.3x62, but have hesitations to doing this both cost wise and history wise, as a collector item it’s not there as it was a century arms import so the markings are stamped out, I don’t know if it’s worth it cost wise as well, I like the sakos so am leaning towards that, but am also a penny pincher, so am in a quandary as to which might be the best approach, any thoughts on this from forum, and right now the brandy is talking a bit,

There is zero cost efficiency to overhauling/rebuilding a Mauser. One does it out of OCD/insanity. Either you want a particular cartridge, or a particular set-up, or both. I recently did an easy one for a friend - knocking on the door to $2,000. You can buy a quality newly manufactured rifle for less. If you want to do the build, rock on!

Thanks, that was sorta

the way I was leaning,

Yup,

You do it because you want to. To bring an old rifle back to life and use. I'm in the process of doing two of them right now.

A full build, with stock will probably run in the $2K area, depending on who does it and what you chose to put into it.

You'll have a classic, personal rifle when done, not something that's been produced en-masse, (other then when originally built).

And, some of the best decisions are made while having a brandy, scotch, whiskey...
