Earlier, this website's forums ran articles critical of Dick's Sporting Goods for their decision to limit firearms sales, both type and by age. They were perceived by AH members as non supportive of the shooting sports. Last week Reuters and Baltimore Business Journal ran articles about Dick's taking a hit: stock prices falling 10% because of poor financial performance by the chain. They cited loss of shooting related sales as half of the cause. I summarize this to show the power of hunters, shooters and forums like AH. At a market cap of 3.78B dollars, a 10% loss of value translates to $378 million bucks, and about $180 million directly related to us: hunters and shooters. Their shareholders lost that amount of value in a few months. We have a lot of power. We must use it. Dick's head, and CEO Edward Stack remained defiant, and vowed to remove all hunting related items from 10 stores as a test; to be replaced by trendy athletic gear. "Hunting is a low profit margin area anyway", he said. Following his mantra, "nobody beats Dick's anymore", he promised to rise to the occasion, and bring the stock value back. I congratulate members of this forum for voting with your wallet: if they don't support you, don't support them......to your freedom.....Flatwater Bill

Until they change their policy, I'll never set foot in a Field and Stream / Dick's.
Last week I needed a peep sight for my bow. I was 100 yards from a Field and Stream but drove an extra six miles to Cabela's for a $10 item.

I haven’t shopped Dicks sense Mr CEO Stack removed the guns. I used to shop there for all types of athletic gear. I’m done with them! My list doesn’t end with them either. Yeti is another one on my list.

1/2 is hunting related, how much of the other half is the hunters who don’t let their wife and kids buy sports equipment there? I used to buy a lot of fishing poles and reels there, not anymore, like Meigsbuck, I would drive to the other side of Texas not to spend a dime with those turd burglars!

Thank you Bill for sharing the update. I can imagine that some stockholders are wondering who their board has put in charge.

I try to do business with the locally own gun store if possible.

LOL! Nor me!:rolleyes:o_Oo_O:eek::D:D:D

I spent a couple bucks on a paintball cylinder refill there last year. My first purchase since they went girly men. I used to spend a couple hundred bucks a year on all sorts of fishing and hunting gear. Looks like I'm not the only one that said up their ass with a blowtorch.

Just looked back and the day before they stopped the sales and put the stricter age requirements their stock was $31.80. Yesterday at the close their stock was $37.44.

So far this year, that's better return than the S&P.

The CEO is right about hunting gear being low margin and "Trendy" athletic gear being higher margin. I suspect the 10 stores will soon be all stores. I am sure the founder is turning over in his grave.

There isn't a single item in their stores I can't buy someplace else.

Cabela's, at least in Delaware in the U.S., is shrinking their hunting and shooting departments. What was once a good sized camo clothing and reloading section has been removed or compressed to accommodate more of the trendy clothing and Asian import doo dads. Bullets, powders and other reloading components aren't being restocked. There used to be two gun racks for used firearms, that's been reduced to one and the black gun accessory aisle has shrunk. It's a sign of the aging hunting population, the price and logistics of entering the sport and a myriad of other interests for young people.

Thank goodness for Academy! They accept Dicks coupons and have everything Dicks has, and certainly appear to be pro gun rights. My sons cub scout pack sells coupon books that include Dicks, so we end up with number of Dicks coupons. They all get redeemed at Academy.

I'm unfortunately on a diet. Presently in VA hospital as Agent Orange finally caught up with me. Cancer and I no longer can speak. If all goes well I'll be out of here and back home in Thailand by end of July. Tough road but I'm a tough old guy. I'll make it that hunt.
