That area of Georgia is pretty red, so if the republicans can find a sane, rational conservative to primary her they should have a pretty good chance to win.

You had me all the way up to the “sane and rational” part. What sane and rational person runs for those positions?

My safe full of guns and standard magazines, in California of all places, would get me arrested in Canada.
And my truck would be illegal in California, I’m not sure the point you’re trying to make?

All I’m saying is that despite what certain media outlets like to say, life’s pretty good north of the 49th. Just like life is pretty good south of it as well, despite the fear mongering by the left.

I have to agree with you. And I say that begrudgingly because I have always been a vocal critic of our political elite - having spent a lot of time fighting in court against them. But COVID seems to have had a strange side effect on our country in that it seems to run better. There are major issues, no doubt, but there is definitely a change. Healthcare certainly runs much better. I would say we are better than we have been in a couple of decades. I have had several interactions for love ones recently and the care was excellent. We have a small population spread over an enormous area which creates huge challenges. We have had ten years of stupid changes to what was an excellent immigration system that are now fixing. So I am also optimistic. But it is a work in progress, no doubt. Canadians are generally hopeful - we believe in humanity. We don’t see things as a fight for survival but as a challenge to be mastered together. That cultural difference comes through in our literature compared to other cultures. It makes politics more difficult but think we will be just fine.

Is that because you live in Alberta and not Western BC, Ontario or Quebec?

And how is the Alberta independence movement going? Real question.

That’s interesting that COVID may have had a few positive impacts in Canada… I genuinely can’t think of a single positive thing that happened in the US as a result..

I’m not any sort of a medical insider… but our hospitals and clinics don’t appear any better or worse… culturally I see all sorts of damage done both to the younger generations but also American culture at large… it created a significant amount of divisiveness across families, businesses, and people in general.. and economically it outright ruined a lot of businesses and set many industries back several years…

We got past it… but it was a goat rope at all levels here from my perspective.. and we still haven’t fully recovered..

That has quite a bit to do with it sure, but BC and Ontario will both be hopping hopefully with the new push for critical metals (see the golden triangle and ring of fire). And off paper, Quebec is doing just fine, they just appear to be have not because the revenue they generate from electricity somehow doesn’t get factored into the equalization formulas.

And you’re asking the wrong guy about separation, I am staunchly 100% against it. Believe it or not, Alberta needs more trade markets than the US, especially now that it looks like you guys are after Venezuelan oil for feedstock at the upgraders in the gulf. What sense does it make for Alberta
to cut off all costal access? We have a premier who is owned by the fringe minority so this is the situation we are in.

And in another hopeful note, with defence spending building its way to 5% of GDP, I am hoping that it will create a home grown defence industry. I find careers of guys like @Red Leg, @mdwest, and others fascinating because I don’t think that those career trajectories exist here.

I’ll tell you what I don’t like: what has happened to Sergi Lavrov? He wasn’t at the big Putin meeting, he’s been absent since before it, he’s not been seen since. Of their entire government he always struck me as the one that could conduct himself tactfully and act diplomatically.

Maybe they needed fresh troops and he’s now carrying ammo instead of water..?

100% the lock down policies caused lasting and significant damage to an entire generation of young people. I also think the anger generally through a loss of faith - no faith religion and now now faith in society - is playing out. My theory on the health system is that the people who got into it for a steady paycheque fled, leaving those who really care. It become apparent to me during COVID but has lasted. The culture in the hospitals seems so much different.

I get back to Canada pretty regularly. For hunting and fishing it is hard to beat. However, I’ve gotten way too used to the freedoms in the US to ever consider moving back. Too many of my toys are not allowed North of the 49th!

I am concerned that as a country, Canada has lost its moral compass. When we were home last month an elderly family friend was really depressed because three of his friends had chosen MAID the prior month (medical assistance in dying). There are actually counselors in his assisted living facility helping people make this decision!

News flash…. Homeowner/residential electricity rate increases directly proportional to states/areas with highest number/density of AI data centers. Told you so ;)

Just preparing for "Soylent Green" in the near future.

It was surreal to say the least. A distant relative of my wife’s elected this last year. They had a goodbye party with immediate family, and then she went in to be killed.

What’s driving that sort of decision with that kind of frequency? Is quality of life eroded to the point they want to check out because of a lack of healthcare? Or is it a money thing?

I understand someone terminally ill deciding that if they’re going out anyway that they’d rather go out on their terms and on their timeline rather than suffer though a period of pain and discomfort and have family potentially suffering alongside them… I had a friend with terminal cancer make that decision about 7-8 years ago.. I disagree with that position.. he left behind a 17 year old daughter that would have valued every additional day.. but I at least understood his reasoning and rationale..

But I’m having a hard time understanding why I’d want to be put to death just because I’ve gotten old and can no longer live a young man’s life… I watched all four of my grandparents age into their 80’s… my own parents are now just reaching their 80’s… all had/have varying degrees of health… but all pretty much lived/live happily until the time God called them home..

That's how Jim Shockey's wife decided to go.

Sorry, couldn't resist seeing that the comments in the meme have been repeated multiple times here. :ROFLMAO:

thanks for your reply bob , is it feasible to build a 444 on a P14/M17 , or is the no4 enfield easier to build? i know where i can buy a lothar walther barrel in 44, 1-38 twist , but i think with a barrel crown of .650" the profile is too light .
