Now that Rifle is sexy.
Well done Sir
Well done Sir
You’ll have to share more details on that thing, you have me intrigued." Sexy"
It's never been called that, Thanks! I will take it in the best possible way.
Nothing like when they become an extension of your arm!View attachment 704676
Howa in 223. Nothing special, bounces around in the ute and gets used nearly everyday for culling , you get comfortable with the same rifle and nothing is safe within 200 yards. It’s starting to get tired though, would have 6-7000 rounds down it and the stock could use a tidy up
Gumpy
I was wondering if you had to use the 10 gauge/ ultra hunter frame. Thanks for sharing.Well, the bullet comes out of the funny looking end...
The conversion from a HR 10 ga. to the big bore is relatively simple, the hard part is finding a gunsmith that will do it.
For the fat .577NE case the doner H&R Handy gun must be a 10 ga. The H&R frame is the stronger SB2 frame.
The procedure is called the " Barrel Stub Method". The original barrel is whacked off in front of the hinge pin and the new unchambered barrel is threaded into the "stub", then it is chambered and then you shoot it.
Until recently, I used it without the brake. That saved me some on ammunition cost as no one wanted to shoot it.
I made and installed the brake for my recent hunt buffalo hunt of 6 cows, it recoils about like a .375HH. Go ahead call me a sissy, but I warn you I am a cryer.
- The barrel is a heavy 26.5 inches plus the brake.
- The total weight, soaking wet, is under 12 lbs.
- The stock has minimum drop which helps significantly with the felt recoil. That is why the sight is mounted so high.
- I am camo nerd. What can I say?
- The recoil pad is a Limbsaver Nitro. it is much wider that the butt stock. ( Very elegant. )
When PH's first see how it rolls up a cape buffalo the are very impressed. I want to say "friggin' shocked" but I never use superlatives.
I have used my own hard cast, 21 BNH, flat nosed bullets and Peregrine Bushmaster bullets.
They both abruptly conclude a buffalo hunt, it's almost anticlimactic.
My next buffalo hunt, which is only pencilled in because I am now 80 yrs. old, will be with my TC Encore, MGM 50-110 barrel and CEB Raptor bullets. I have built a muzzle brake for it too. ( They are habit forming. )
