what is the consensus on trophy elephant in kazuma 1st 2 weeks in nov? to close to rains?....thanks bob

Nov is too late...sept oct for bull elephant would be my choice...before the rains start as you will be tracking from water holes the artificial ones being popular...wild area but not the biggest.

1st 2 weeks in November might be all I can get...has anyone here hunted in that time frame?

IvW is most always correct.
I hunted near that area recently during late October through the first week of November. The ground was so dry that some days even the PH's steps were Snap, Crackle, and Pop.

Save your money...

Mark and lvW thanks....Mark the dryer the better in this case. I am more worried about it raining to soon.....bob

It will be hot.

Hot and dry is good as you can pick up tracks from water holes or artificial water points in this case. As soon as it rains al the dynamics of the hunt change...then it becomes a hit and miss story...although tracking is easier...
You need to get fresh tracks early...late afternoon pointless...so finding tracks early from water points and following up is the norm...
After the rains start you need to pick up fresh tracks randomly and hope for the best.

I think what everyone is tippy toeing around is that is a transition period time of year. It's the WEATHER! People get paid good money to forecast it wrong half the time. The real question is, how big a gambler are you? Any given year here in Texas at the ranch I run for whitetails, I won't book any Feb hunts bc it usually greens up and can turn warm etc- bucks go underground. This year ? Heck it's been a great Feb for hunting but that's once every 5-6 years it happens this way.

I picked October 1-15 at Kazuma this year with CMS as I felt if it started raining then the big bulls would not need to travel much from Botswana. Not to mention it would be tough tracking them.

I would NOT go in November, and just wait for the following year.

Thanks everyone.....the hunt is set for 25....my dates were the last 2 weeks in oct....but because of a scheduling conflict was asked if I could go 1st 2 weeks in nov.

I am ok with the last 2 weeks of oct ...but am uneasy about 2 weeks later.....I am a little gambler.

appreciate all the replys.....bob

Philip...would you be worried about it raining at that time?....that's the concern rains come no elephant....bob
I do not like early or late season due to rain and heat. It is just harder to hunt. The main reason for going late season is to get a better price.

I’d have to partly disagree with that. The heat can be difficult on some people. But I really enjoy late season in a lot of areas because the limited water resources concentrate the game. Speaking generally not about this area, I also like how outfitters are not operating at full capacity late season so you have multiple options to change camps if you choose. I have gotten better pricing in late season on some hunts, but I actually do enjoy hunting late season for these reasons, particularly the flexibility.

so I have made a decision....not saying its the best or most ideal one.....I dont know if this is discounted or not .it was not advertised as such....if I remember correctly...so that is a moot point on this decision.
the heat will kill me as I will be coming from Montana. while I grew up with it in Arizona I wont kid myself that it wont be tough and hard.
I like the scarcity of water and the attraction of the watering holes, also for lack of foliage hopefully in that time frame.

probably the main reason in this decision is this....the hunt is 2yrs 9 months away....only opening for that area with that outfitter.....there are other areas , but that is where I want to go.

good advice from tanks to wait but....I am 63 , I will turn 66 a few days after this hunt is over.....its not a birthday present...I could care less about that...I mention only to say I am starting to get up there and I dont want to delay or put things off for to long.....so I am going.

thanks to all who took the time and effort to help out.....bob

That’s a good decision to go sooner, rather than later. Who knows what might happen between now and almost three years from now.

I have a Chapuis 450-400 double that looks brand new and shoots well, never been hunted from what I can tell. I am willing to part with it as I have a 375 H&H Sodia on it's way from Dorleac & Dorleac. I am looking for $9,250 for it and if you are interested, I am happy to send you some pictures. Regards,
Steve
