I've been trying (so far unsuccessfully) to find a U.S. supplier or someone willing to ship to the U.S. for Voere's 98 Mauser detachable magazine conversion kits. If anyone can point me in the right direction, I'd appreciate it. For starters, I'm just interested in pricing and availability, but I'm likely to want at least 1 and possibly 2 of these if I can find a way to get them.

Bump to top. Still interested in finding a U.S. source for these if possible.

From their distributors list, Canada is closest option:

I tried Sporteque about a year ago. They won't ship to the US. I'm not sure if they'd sell to me in person if I tried next time I'm in Canada, but I'm assuming it isn't a stock item so I wouldn't be able to just drop by and pick one up off the shelf. I do have a few contacts in Canada that I might be able to have order 1 for me, but it would be easier all around if I could find a US source.

It could be declared as a “ spring loaded metallic storage system” for customs

I actually don't think US customs would be a problem. My issue so far has been finding a supplier willing to ship to the US. The federal government doesn't regulate magazines, and neither does the state of Alaska, so I have no worries there. It's just a matter of getting them.

Hi Walk-in. I have a large ring 98 with a Voere conversion kit complete with 2 x 5 shot magazines. Rifle is chambered in 9.3x62, the top metal (steel) of the magazine is stamped with 9.3x62, but the bottom metal (aluminium), was originally a 30-06, but all matched up and works - very little difference between the 2 cartridges anyway, (except for the lead pill obviously). I am looking at changing to AI magazines and will do so when I get a matching bottom plate - after that the Voere is up for sale. Maybe if you can source a PTG bottom plate for a 98 and some accurate mags in 30-06 we can do a deal. Sending to US is no problem to me. I live in Germany.

That setup looks similar to the Remington factory DBM. Action screw spacing is probably different though.

Don't own a Remington to compare, but magazines and bottom metals aren't exactly rocket science so I expect there to be a similarity regardless of manufacture.

Hi, Chris.

I originally posted this in 2019 (before the world went crazy). I'm still very interested and a little surprised at how difficult it is to get these in the U.S.

The rifle I had at the time of my original post was a previously sporterized Mauser (VZ-24, actually) in 30-06 that I re-stocked and converted to 22-250. Due to my inability to find the Voere conversion, I ended up using a Gibbs magazine for that rifle. It works, but it isn't ideal and definitely not as refined as the Voere, which I would still prefer. On the plus side, the rifle itself is very accurate. Your magazines obviously wouldn't work for me, as I need short ones for this rifle.

I had in the back of my mind a plan to someday build an 8x68, which I had thought the Voere conversion would also be good for. I can't think of a single reason why I need an 8x68 except that I want one. That plan, however, has been put on hold for the time being while I finish building a new 35 Whelan on a Husqvarna action. I expect to have the barreled action back from being blued soon, and with a little bit of luck may have the stock done and be ready to shoot it by the end of the year. We'll see how that goes.

Thanks Walk-in. The post was a little older, so I assumed that you already had sorted out how you to solve the issue in regards to the magazine. I have decided to sell the bottom metal with the 2 mags along with the stock as I have cut out a notch for the magazine release on the side so it only makes sense to sell the everything together. I am going to change to a GRS stock for the 9.3x62 and then use AI magazines. To be honest I am not a big fan of the Voere magazines, hence my decision to change the magazine system along with the stock. My biggest problem is getting a Mauser 98 DBM for AI mags. I bought a CDI DBM for my Kimber, (bought a Kimber 300WSM after owning a Heym 8x68, great rifle and cartridge, but the setup was a little too heavy for the hunt I had planned and the better powder burning for shorter barrels sold me on the 300WSM and the Kimber is very weight efficient too). But unfortunately the guy who owned and ran CDI passed away so the DBMs are no longer available from him, the only other manufacturer I can find who does bottom metals for Mauser 98 and AI mags is Pacific Tool and Gauge. Their business must be incredibly succesful as their eMail account bounces all eMails back, their facebook page is closed and when you ring them, all you get is a "please hold" and you call is never answered - I rang over 20 times and waited over 10 minutes each time. Getting through ITAR regulations is another problem, what I need to find is someone who can send me these parts privately, mybe we can do a deal with Voere parts in return? Voere do kits in 8x68... I've rambled on a bit too long here. Hope all goes well - if you need parts out of Germany or Europe, feel free to contact me, like I said I would be interested in a reciporcal deal.

I had looked into CDI before, but I like the Voere magazine release better. I know that Pacific Tool and Gauge is known both for high quality and somewhat lacking customer service. That may be why you've had a hard time reaching them. I did take a look at their site tonight, and their prices are reasonable. I might consider them myself, but I'm not sure I can get a magazine/bottom metal combination from them that will work on my 22-250. I may try to contact them, but I don't know how successful I'll be.

Give me a few days to look into some options and possibly we can discuss some kind of deal. I'm not sure how much of problem shipping internationally either from your end or mine would be, but it is worth looking into.

Thanks for the reply, I think it would be better to take this discussion off line, please pm me: chris.lintz at hotmail.com

See pages 4-6 here. I believe what you need may be easy under current U.S. regulations. I can't speak to German requirements.

Getting the USA permit is probably not that difficult - the problem is that there is just no way that I can contact PTG. Maybe you can source the items easier?

Import into Germany is no problem, only essential firearm parts, (bolt, action and barrel), require a permit, and that is easily organised.
