TSX all the way or solids in the mag for buffalo

Gday
@Fordy

It is always better to know where people come from. I am assuming you are Australian. Having hunted worldwide, I am very familiar with the mentality of many different hunters and can often better understand their attitudes towards certain topics.
Australian hmmm better ask the main islanders that as I’m from Tasmania which a lot of aussies classify us a different breed or inbred lol

When you figure mine out please let me know as I have trouble finding that out myself lol

Yes I’m a Aussie

Cheers

Figuring out you are Australian was not very difficult after your last post. Tasmania is more difficult. I newer was in Australia and only know the island because of the unfortunately extinct Tasmanian Tiger. I met Australian and New Zealand hunters in Zimbabwe and had very good contact ( Beer and Whisky ) with them.

My PH didn't want an expanding bullet to exit a bull, nor a solid to fail to exit.

He like Hornady DGX and DGS for that reason.

He had a sequence regime, because most of the bulls he hunted were herd bulls, and he didn't want to see a cow wounded.

Gday grand veneur

Please I mean no disrespect @ all but the above is surely worthy of a discussion as so many possibilities occur in the field & one I like to cover as many bases as possible

So couple quick questions please

what happens if the critter comes in from the side & your ph can’t shoot due to the thickness of the vegetation or people in the way ?

also what happens if your in a situation of you extremely close to a boarder you cannot cross & one that the only option is a south to north shot or even worse a up the left side hard quarter away & your first shot for whatever reason has failed to secure the critter ?

Others reasons also exist

That is when imo a solid is the one you wish you had
Yes to me I understand a lot has come in development of the likes of the mushroom & shedding monos but they still fail where a solid will reign supreme

Once again no disrespect just a conversation worthy of having it for some situations but definitely not all
Cheers
If the expanding bullet you are using is not capable of doing this you are using the wromg one.
Buffalo should be hunted using premium grade controlled expanding bullets only.....

I have shot several buffalo with such classic bullets, but the predecessors of the two mentioned, the SP/Interbond and the classic FMJ bullet from Hornady. Contrary to what some people claim, they worked well and I would continue to use them for buffalo hunting.

I’ll still state that maybe fine for when the things go right scenario & some places even a premium controlled expansion pill can be too much over penetration so too put a blanket statement out without knowing the full picture is one that needs a little more delving into imo
So it’s a matter of ticking the boxes to what suits the ahead scenario better between the individual & the critter till it’s flat on the ground

To me it’s cover as many bases as possible rather than relying on a ph to finish a problem that I potentially created by choosing the lesser pill for the scenario or combo of pills is one that I don’t like to do

Not all scenarios are the same so why not use the best option or options available to us for that ? & sometimes that is a solid & a tweaked one even better but ea to their own

Cheers

The majority did not discover on their own that A-Frame or TSX are the best bullet, because the number of buffalo shot by herself is not enough for that. What some sponsored authors and influencers have written is repeated, with total intolerance towards other hunters who have used something completely different, but came to the same result; a dead buffalo. This also applies to the use of solids for buffalo hunting which, apart from the backup, also has its justification for shooting buffalo.

In a charge situation on buffalo there is no solid that can outperform a premium grade soft given the same bullet placement.....

that is not showing the full picture of what can occur

It depends on the situation & what someone uses , also one very important factor is the deflection that a pill has impacted on it prior to the target but totally get that not every situation will encounter a deflection but it does occur & one that while it’s not nice it can somewhat be reduced to a even lower level if we choose a bit better suited pill that can cover both or at least to a more consistent level

This is not only applicable to buff it’s important to a lot of critters but definitely more so in the way of DG

Cheers

Here's the target for the NorthForks - 25yds off a bag, iron sights. Hunting leopards over dogs the range won't be more than that.

Flew in an airshow in Smyrna years ago, beautiful country.

Best regards,

Franco
