Been thinkin'; again. (Dangerous pastime). Now that Ruger has assumed control/responsibility for Marlin, how about a BLR type actioned rifle in 416 Ruger? Steel actions should be able to handle pressures and recoil, provided stock design is adequate.
Could such a beastie be accepted in Africa, or chasing big bear in Alaska? No real reason that I can see for not running Woodleigh 450 grain bullets ...

Thanks, ChrisG; obviously I don't do my research proper-like, eh? When I consider I gave a nephew a good condition Win Mag, as a starter hunting rifle ... sigh. May have to research some on this . The Northern Territory of Australia, and water buff ain't that far away for me ... Might even talk to good mate Anthony G .

The Northern Territory of Australia, and water buff ain't that far away for me ... Might even talk to good mate Anthony G .

I dont know if ww guns will export a .416 Ruger, but if you can find a BLR in a magnum case head dimension (7mm mag, 300 win mag, etc) you should be able to rebarrel it and do some slight modification to the magazine and feed ramp and have a .416R. The only issue you might run into is weight. You may want to add a pound or two in lead to the stock. A .416R in a 7.25 lb lever gun is gonna hurt!

I dont know if ww guns will export a .416 Ruger, but if you can find a BLR in a magnum case head dimension (7mm mag, 300 win mag, etc) you should be able to rebarrel it and do some slight modification to the magazine and feed ramp and have a .416R. Thanks, Mate. I've researched the WWG website, as you wrote, export/import can be a hassle. I have a contact down in Melbourne who specialises in importation, so the Aussie side of this ain't a huge problem.
There's a g'smith out here, lives up in water buff country, who specialises in large (!!) caliber builds and D/G rifles, interesting bloke. He agrees on using a older steel actioned rifle (NOT Aluminium!); says he has thought about it. Another good mate is a specialist stock maker (born in Rhodesia, grew up in South Africa, been an Aussie for decades) who would build a new dense walnut stock to fit my long physique. Only issue is finding a suitable magnum action ; as rare as frog feathers out here. These two blokes are well worth researching: Anthony George (g,smith) and Brett Russouw (BDR Gun Stocks).

Already have a Voere 9.3X62; it'll be going on the market soon. Other 9.3 alternative is already covered, a 9.3X64 Ruger No 1 that Rob Blomfield "built" for me ...
