Shooting Thru the Boss

There have been a few photos here that show a shot through the boss on Cape Buffalo.

Can most of the common bullets fired from common cartridges penetrate through the boss into the brain?
 
A solid maybe but not a soft, I shot a bull in the horn with a 535 grain Woodleigh soft out of my 500 Jeffery and it didn't fully penetrate.
