Just wondering what scope, if any, people are using on their Rigby HS rifles (or other similar stalking rifles) ?

And, why did you choose what you chose?

My HS is in 30/06. She has a 1” S&B 4x scope in EAW QD mounts. I chose that setup because 4x is all I need for hunting and I didn’t want a big, heavy scope upsetting the balance of the rifle.

However, more often than not I hunt her with just the iron sights.

She’s a delightful rifle to shoot.

Swarovski Z8i 1-8x24. It permits the scope to be set further back for a good eye relief. It has 125 foot field of view at 100 feet (the Z8i+ has ~150). The illuminated reticle has a feature that basically turns it into a red dot that at low power permits very fast acquisition of a target.

Zeiss Diavari-C ,3-9x36. 1” tube. Light and to my mind classic.

Yes, they are nice and discontinued :-( Kahles I belive has some classic-looking ones.
Leupold should step up here :-)

As fine a scope as is made. I have one on a custom M70 in 7x57. If price is no object, it would be difficult to beat.

My stalking rifle has a Schmidt & Bender 3-12x50 on it, mostly because I bought it second hand and that was the Scope which was allready mounted. Since it is suhl hook-mount I feel that the cost for changing it was to great, also the rings are engraved and therefore also harder to change and still keeping its general appearance. Othervise I would probably have gone with a lighter scope, perhaps the Swarovski Z3 3-9x36.

I’d like the option where the front rings are installed on the objective! It allows for the scope to be mounted farther back on the action.

I don’t have a Rigby HS, but if I did it would have a 1” S&B 4x scope in EAW QD mounts on it.

You get as many answers as there are users because the choice of a scope depends on how you hunt with your rifle. For example, in our region we hardly or never shoot at very long distances, but we often have to shoot game, wild boars above all, at dusk or even at night. Due to the need of luminosity, only scopes with big ocular lenses and big magnification come into question. The reference scope for us was always in the past the 8x56.

Hi Lance, Hope you well. I collect Mauser rifles and they are very much part of my cultural history in Africa. Would you consider selling the rifle now a year on ? I'd like to place it in my collection of Mauser rifles. Many thx

I saw where you hunted elephant with backcountry safaris in Zimbabwe.
Was looking to book an elephant hunt and wanted to know how your hunt went
and if you would recommend them.

Thanks
Mike
hi, do you know about lions hunters, leopard hunters, and crocodiles hunters of years 1930s-1950s
I'm new to Africa Hunting. I would like to purchase a Heym 450-400 double rifle. I'm left-handed but would prefer a non-canted gun. Is anyone in the community considering parting with theirs?
