We are not fortunate to have wild pheasant in Pennsylvania any more. But the PA Game Commission does a fine job with putting out around 250,000 pheasant divided over 7 stockings. The birds are beautiful, get very willy after they are out for a few weeks and this year for the first time they are placing some bands on the birds to track their movement. I was fortunate to take a roaster with a $100 band on it!
Woodcock hunting was better than normal this year. Very fun to hunt them with a dog too.
Last ruffed grouse are on the rebound. West Nile virus has really had a major impact on the population for the last 15 or so years with most dying their first summer.
Nothing like the comradery associated with bird hunting!
