New policy for Qatar started as of March 2025 for firearms?

Yeah always claim and recheck if you start out on a different airline. It’s a pain but once you’re done, it is reassuring to know that Qatar will make sure your firearm case and suitcase with ammo makes it to your destination and is transferred in Doha to your second Qatar connection flight to Africa.

Another issue to know is if Qatar farms out the flight from Doha to Africa to Oman Airlines, only Gracy Travel can get your firearm case cleared with Oman Airlines. Travel Express couldn’t get it done for us in November 2023. Gracy has way more experience when it comes to procedures if traveling to less popular destinations with firearms. TE works fine for South Africa and a few other destinations but they don’t do the volume of business that Gracy does around the world to be able to know and solve other issues.

Oman just flies the smaller routes like Tanzania. Qatar has their own metal flying Doha-JNB. There are many travel agents that can ensure your rifles are correctly booked. Certainly not just Gracy.

From what I can see when dealing with Qatar Airways, you are dealing with at least 4 entities… the government of Qatar, Qatar Airways, a private contractor in charge of security at Doha, and whichever connecting airline/airport.

Actually, Qatar used to fly their own planes to Tanzania but switched to Oman in mid 2023. There was a breakdown between the airlines as to how to handle firearms. Gracy was on top of the switch. Travel Express was not. Gracy got involved in the issue and solved it for their customers. I can’t speak to other agents besides the two I mentioned. Gracy led the way. Debbie Gracy personally got the airlines together to fix the issue.

You beat me to it. I flew to JRO on Qatar metal this May too. Wife and daughter flew Qatar metal to Zanzibar in May.

The JRO flight makes a big loop, Doha, Kilimanjaro, Dar, Doha.

Glad to hear that Qatar is flying some of their own again. They did in 2018 when I went to TZ but not in November 2023 when I went to TZ.
