Myself i think it would be ok if loaded with 500gr + bullets. There is an article on Garret's web site about someone hunting in Africa with the 45-70 and taking all 5 big game. In Oz for Asiatic Buffalo I load wirh 500gr Hornadys DGS loaded similar to Garret's loads.
