Gents,

I've got a Husky 1640 in 6.5x55 that I've recently finished rehabbing. I had to repair a chunk of walnut missing from behind the tang and, as this was a "learning experiment," I did it the old school way by cutting out a small square, fitting in and gluing the new piece, then sanding and polishing it back down to the correct contour. That part came out great. But I've never been 100% happy with the closest match I was able to achieve in terms of color and grain with the replacement walnut... and I'd prefer not to strip and stain the entire stock to hide half a square inch. Anyhow, that's a very long-winded way of saying that I'm also on the lookout for another stock -- walnut or synthetic -- to go with this one. Please let me know if you've got anything. (Richards does 96% inlets but has been pretty vague on what that actually means in terms of final inletting and fitting and there are tons of factory take-offs available from Canadian vendors, but they won't ship to the US. I've got a buddy in CAN, but was hoping to find something domestically.) Ram-line used to sell them, as did McMillan, but I haven't been able to track one down.

Thanks y'all.

These are hard to find, the 1900 series is harder to find. Richards microstocks makes a stock for the 1640. A used one is hard to find that is no cracked....poor inletting?

I ended up finding a replacement 1640 in pretty good shape. Based on what I've read, they just need a little relief right behind the tang when bedding and it seems to alleviate the cracking problem. Assuming it's something about the stock design, but that's above the pay grade of a garage gunsmith!

If you are still interested in a stock I should be able to find one for you easily here in Sweden and ship it to you.

The 1640s are just 98 mausers, easy to find. It is the 1900 series action that is hard to find. I found the ramline stock and a couple of charles Daly...theses are much better than the ramline and not as tachy feeling as the houge.

The 1640s aren't 98s. They have the screw spacing but not the large ring. Fitting in a standard 98 stock means filling in a lot of space with epoxy and some other adjustments. Been there, tried that... final result wasn't gonna be worth it.

You are correct.

more like a small ring polish action. Looks very much like a 96.
