I will be traveling through Jogurg next week, checking my bags through to Bulawayo from New York. There is same day arrival and departure in South Africa, no overnight. Will I need a firearm permit in S.A.? It has been many years since doing this trip and it was not required with same day flights. Am I safe not having acquired a permit? Thanks.

Phil,

Welcome to AH! I would suggest asking Henry, one of the sponsors here @riflepermits.com

You have to have permit.... just to bring it into the country. So, yes. As @reedy0312 suggested.... call Henry.

I have "transited" through Johannesburg many times to Bulawayo and to Windhoek with no gun issues or problems. Brickburn is exactly right-as long as your luggage and gun are transferred to the next leg of your flight, and you never actually receive them, then they are still officially in International territory not in SA. I do however always carry SAPS 520 in case there is some mechanical or other problem or issue.

Have a great hunt Phil. What are you after up in Zim?

I am going back to hunt leopard. I have been lucky enough to harvest a couple in the past, one with dogs and one on bait. It just seems to be the neatest thing I have hunted over there. Maybe I'll get t see another one before they put an end to it.

Good morning,
Did you hunt w Leeuwkop at their ranch or in Zimbabwe? The ranch looks awesome, but I'll be in Zimbabwe for buffalo and whatever else we dig up.
What did you hunt for?
Vaccines?
What rifle did you use?
I feel like I need a good cotton safari shirt and an ammo belt to make the hunt feel right!
How often did you shoot prior to going?
Did you use sticks for shooting practice?

Tedd
