Does anyone insure guns while traveling or know of an underwriter for this type of policy. I have a trip in several weeks and will traveling with a double and custom bolt - it gets to be a serious number with the swaro scopes all in

Check with your home owners insurance that's all I did and placed a rider onto it to cover my rifle and optics.

Cost will depend on how much you value them for.

terrible idea @JimP

while your homeowners will be delighted to take your money, typically about 2-3% of value as a premium, they are unlikely to pay your claim.

alternatively, eastern insurance fine firearms insurance is a mere 33-basis points as premium and this is their business, insuring high-end firearms and paying claims.

you will not find a better deal than $168 for $50k in collector firearm insurance with a $250 deductible.

I don't think that there is a insurance company out there that you wouldn't need to fight with to get a declared value of a item.

No different than your declared value on a vintage vehicle that you are paying the increased premium for. They are in the business of denying every little penny that you ask for. Or should I say nickle since the penny is no more.

when you deal with an actual firearms insurance company you don't need to debate all this during the claims process.

you don't even need to schedule firearms worth less than $10,000. i've insured many firearms with them and i have had two very unfortunate claims that were paid fairly and immediately.

a homeowner's policy is very overpriced and they will debate with you whether the firearm should be replaced, argue that a schlock repair does not diminish value, and they will split hairs between it being a functional firearm or a collectible, trying to replace a heym with a sabatti if you have a loss.

Inland marine policies are also terrible.

Rookhawk is spot-on with our experiences.

Happy to discuss with you. 571-352-7097 cole@gunandtrophy.com

Do it. I started carrying firearm insurance vs additional rider through homeowners a couple years ago…you really start thinking about when dragging Rigbys across the world, and then even more so when doubles start entering the picture.

That said in over 30 years of dragging guns around and all the high end custom revolvers and rifles I’d bought and ones I’d traded or sold along the way, I’d never had one lost, stolen or even damaged…let alone seriously broken. I always say that and knock on wood, and insure things…as the day will come…

And sadly, yesterday, that day came for me. In my current shuffle of upgrading a few rifles, I sold a mint custom 375HH by Sterling Davenport. Looking at the bolt and races, looked like it could be unfired, just a beautiful rifle…that arrived like this…

Thought about writing a post warning people to make sure and insure your fine guns…but still reeling over the whole thing and having to try and get through whatever the process will be from here, refunding the buyer, all before departing for Zimbabwe in a few days. Not something I ever wanted to deal with, especially when trying to maintain excitement as I head out the door. But…life likes curve balls…this I know with certainty.

That hurts to look at. Sorry for you. Go enjoy Zim and it will be there figure out when you get back.

Hoping Cole has it lined out by the time I get back…which adds comfort…but doesn’t make it any less revolting to see.
